Background / History

Orochimaru was once a Konoha shinobi and a disciple of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, whom he regarded as the “God of Shinobi.” His pursuit of immortality and forbidden research led to his expulsion from Konoha, but he continued developing Living Corpse Reincarnation, Hashirama Cell transplants, Cursed Marks, cloning, and other experiments. 186 212

He briefly joined Akatsuki after losing a wager against Pain for possession of the Rinnegan. He later defected and established an underground base near the Hidden Sound Village, where his subordinates recruited talented people for training, experimentation, or possible use as reincarnation vessels. 139 143

Despite his arrogance, he is capable of restraint when faced with an opponent he cannot confidently defeat. After witnessing Mingyou's strength and learning how extensively he had been investigated, Orochimaru abandoned plans to seize Mingyou's eyes and chose cooperation instead. 149 199
