Background / History

During the Warring States period, the Uchiha and Senju were the two dominant shinobi clans. Their alliance under Uchiha Madara and Hashirama Senju ended that era and founded Konohagakure. The Uchiha initially held high status in the village, second only to the Senju. 183

The clan’s historical peak predated Madara’s leadership. Numerous members awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan, and Izanagi was reportedly used so often that it became commonplace. Uchiha Chiri created Izanami to curb the clan’s self-destructive dependence on Izanagi, after which the clan’s overall strength declined. 183

Tobirama Senju assigned the Uchiha to staff the Konoha Military Police Force. Although intended to maintain village security, the role alienated the clan from other families. Suspicion intensified after the Nine-Tails’ attack, when Konoha excluded the Uchiha from responding, treated them as possible conspirators, relocated their residence toward the village outskirts, and kept them under surveillance. 6

By the time of Fugaku’s leadership, the clan had developed plans for a coup, while Konoha’s leadership prepared to eliminate them. Fugaku used his Mangekyo ability to show the clan the disastrous future of open rebellion and ultimately accepted Mingyou’s proposal to evacuate instead. 7 8

Danzo, Root, and Konoha’s Anbu still moved to destroy the clan. Itachi abandoned the planned massacre after learning that the Uchiha no longer intended to rebel, and he aided Mingyou and Fugaku’s evacuation. The clan escaped Konoha through its secret passage and Mingyou’s Kamui space-time technique. 9 12 14

An ancestral record later recounts a timeline in which Itachi annihilated the clan after Danzo manipulated him. Mingyou discovers that the history recorded on the clan’s memorial tablet no longer fully matches reality because of his transmigration. 183 184

Organization and Population

• Uchiha Fugaku — Clan head who organized the attempted evacuation from Konoha and later led the clan’s combat forces alongside Mingyou. 7 90
