Ning Fengzhi is present when Dugu Bo brings Jiang He to Heaven Dou Royal Academy. He is shocked by Jiang He's Innate Soul Power of level twenty, Dark Gold Terrorclaw Bear Martial Soul, and two ten-thousand-year soul rings, and visibly envies the prospect of such a Martial Soul belonging to his sect. 18

Afterward, he and Chen Xin identify Jiang He's lack of family or sect ties as an opportunity. Ning Fengzhi proposes cultivating a relationship between Jiang He and Ning Rongrong rather than attempting to directly take Dugu Bo's disciple. 19
