Temporal Context

The history recorded from Konoha's Manji-and-Tajima foundation through the Shinobi Alliance era belongs to a prior recorded iteration of the Ninja World. Uchiha Fox describes that version of Konoha as having been established after Manji divided his forces to unify the Land of Fire, while Manji later identifies the Hashirama-and-Madara reconciliation as part of another “run” whose inhabitants' memories will eventually be erased. 444

In the newly observed run, Konoha is founded through Hashirama Senju and Uchiha Madara's reconciliation following their decisive battle. One month after its founding, the settlement remains under construction, with its streets and wooden houses still being built. History

Founding

Manji-Founded Recorded Iteration

Manji and Uchiha Tajima founded Konoha after obtaining a village construction permit from the Land of Fire's Daimyo. Manji named the settlement Konoha and issued a proclamation inviting the major ninja clans of the Land of Fire to relocate there. 175

The Hyuga Clan became the first major clan to answer the invitation, acting under secret instructions connected to the Hyuga population previously relocated to Mount Myōboku. 175

From its outset, Konoha was planned as more than a clan stronghold. Manji directed it to accept displaced civilians, attract outside investment, establish a mission system, and develop a formal ninja-management structure. 175

Hashirama-and-Madara Foundation

In the newly observed run, Hashirama and Madara's final battle at a river valley became the immediate origin of Konoha. Though Tobirama attempted to kill the exhausted Madara, Hashirama stopped him and offered Madara an alliance to end the cycle of clan warfare. 443 444

Madara initially demanded either Tobirama's death or Hashirama's suicide as proof of sincerity. Hashirama removed his armor, ordered the Senju and Uchiha to unite after his death, and prepared to kill himself; Madara stopped him and agreed to build the village together. 444

Uchiha Fox secretly observed the reconciliation and chose to infiltrate the coming village. He noted that this origin differed from the Manji-led unification described in his prior-life memories. 444

Growth into a City-State

After nine years, Konoha had become a powerful and unusually centralized settlement in a world still dominated by independent clans. Its mission system served commoners, feudal lords, and nobles, while its regular ninja army incorporated Uchiha, Hyuga, and civilian-born shinobi under one command structure. 176

Manji deliberately pursued the civilian mission market, beginning with low-level commissions and expanding upward until Konoha monopolized mission channels in the Land of Fire. This deprived rival clans of work and pressured them to either join Konoha or oppose it. 175 177 183

The Senju brothers—Hashirama, Tobirama, Itama, and Wama—eventually defected to Konoha. They were struck by its fortified gates, orderly streets, commercial life, and scale compared with the Senju clan grounds. 179

Unification and Institutionalization

When the anti-Konoha alliance mobilized after Tajima's apparent assassination, Manji ordered a five-division campaign against hostile clans while explicitly forbidding indiscriminate slaughter. 184

Konoha's forces defeated or secured the surrender of multiple clans. With the Hatake Clan's surrender, Konoha was recorded as having cleared separatist ninja clans within the Land of Iron. 185 187

Afterward, Manji spent five years binding clan interests to Konoha through specialized industries and shared institutions. The Akimichi managed barbecue businesses, the Nara handled venison and medicinal products, the Yamanaka operated flower-related industries, the Sarutobi and Shimura supplied instructors, and the Hatake were integrated into Anbu and intelligence work. 189

Following the war, Hashirama regained authority, pursued ceasefires, rebuilt Konoha, assisted surrounding smaller nations, and integrated Senju members into the civilian population to replace wartime losses. 216 218

Later Crises

After Izuna's death, Konoha launched a northern expedition against Kumogakure. Danzō led Konoha's elite in a pincer attack against Kinkaku and Ginkaku's rebel forces, restoring stability after the localized conflict. 224

Konoha later endured a Nine-Tails attack manipulated by Obito. Fugaku's Mangekyō Sharingan temporarily suppressed Kurama while Minato fought Obito; Manji then split the Nine-Tails' chakra, preserving Kushina and sealing the other half in Naruto. 269

Sunagakure and Akatsuki subsequently attacked Konoha during the Chunin Exams. Obito removed Manji to the Kamui dimension, but the village's administrative system recovered quickly after the battle and imposed reparations and cooperation terms on Sunagakure. 310 312 315

When Akatsuki-controlled Five Kage forces declared war, Manji called the Daimyo of all five great nations together and formed the Shinobi Alliance, with himself as supreme commander. 337

Construction in the Newly Observed Run

During Konoha's first month in the newly observed run, wooden homes were erected, streets were only beginning to take shape, and villagers transported timber throughout the settlement. 445

Lin Xiaoxiao was placed in a small house on the village outskirts under conditions barring her from altering the original plot. She observed Hashirama and Madara from a distance without approaching them, while Uchiha Fox covertly monitored her on Manji's orders. 445

Later Developments in the Newly Observed Run

Madara's treatment of Iwagakure envoys Mū and Ōnoki led to an armed confrontation outside Konoha. Mū fought to allow Ōnoki to escape, but Hashirama and Tobirama arrived before the battle could continue. Hashirama identified Mū as a friend and envoy of Konoha and demanded that Madara stop; Madara withdrew. The incident exposed the growing conflict between Hashirama's diplomacy and Madara's reliance on intimidation. 445 447 450

Madara subsequently left Konoha with the young Uchiha Tai. His defection alarmed villagers and prompted Tobirama to propose relocating the Uchiha Clan to the village outskirts for surveillance. Hashirama refused to punish the entire clan for Madara's actions. Madara later returned as an enemy intent on destroying Konoha. Hashirama defeated him near the Valley of the End, after which the village announced Madara's death and erected statues of the former comrades. 451 459

Concerned that competition over the remaining Tailed Beasts could provoke another war, Hashirama convened a Five Kage Summit at a neutral site and proposed distributing the beasts among the great nations. Tobirama insisted that the other villages provide money, land, or resources in exchange. Proceeds from the Tailed Beast purchases later supported Konoha's construction and education plans. 459 464

During Tobirama's tenure, Konoha became involved in conflict with Kumogakure. A peace meeting between Tobirama and the Second Raikage was attacked by Kinkaku and Ginkaku: Kinkaku killed the Raikage, while Ginkaku's attack badly injured Tobirama. Tobirama's accompanying shinobi fought to protect him and escape. 471 472 473

Hiruzen later succeeded Tobirama as Lord Third and brought Danzō, Koharu, and Homura into the village's senior leadership. Although Tobirama had named Lu Bing as his intended successor, records of Lu Bing's life and achievements were subsequently removed from Konoha's history. 478 479

By the Third Shinobi World War, Konoha was fighting Iwagakure near Kannabi Bridge. Minato's team succeeded in its mission to destroy the supply route, but Obito was crushed during the rescue of Rin and presumed dead by the village. 493

Government and Institutions

Hokage and Council

Konoha is governed through the Hokage office, supported at different times by clan leaders, elders, assistants, and a council. Before the Hokage system was formally established, Manji and Uchiha Tajima acted as the village's highest decision-making group. 175 187

Izuna later created the Dual Assistant System, appointing Sarutobi Hiruzen and Shimura Danzō as assistants to distribute administrative responsibility. 219
