History

Ninja Sect Era and Separation

After Indra's death, the Uchiha developed through several of his descendants' lines. Senichi traced his descent through Indra's youngest son, Uchiha Luo, while Uchiha Jin belonged to a collateral branch descended from Indra's eldest son. The Uchiha later became independent from the Ninja Sect; its pro-war faction held the advantage, although some elders favored reducing hostilities with the sect. 170 388 393

As tensions escalated, Sarutobi and hardline elders suppressed peace advocates and reinforced the border. Conflict between the Ninja Sect and the Uchiha became routine, isolating the clan further. 390 393

Near the end of the Ninja Sect, dozens of Three-Tomoe Sharingan users attacked the aged Sarutobi with coordinated Fire Style techniques and taijutsu. Sarutobi defeated them by using the Four Directions Demon Sealing Formation to seal their chakra. 56

During this period, Uchiha Jin killed his sister and childhood friend to awaken successive forms of the Sharingan. After a failed attempt to kill Sarutobi, he accused an unknown clan member of leaking intelligence, but the clan head dismissed his claim. 393 396

Senichi and the Senju Feud

Twenty years after the Ninja Sect's fall, the Uchiha and Senju stood as the strongest competing ninja clans. Uchiha Senichi led the Uchiha and was regarded as one of the era's greatest geniuses. 58 59

Senichi led an elite force in an attempt to capture Kurama. His Mangekyō Sharingan suppressed the Nine-Tails and halted its Tailed Beast Bomb, but the strain caused severe pain and raised his fear of eventual blindness. 59

After attempting to seize Manji's Rinnegan, Senichi was effortlessly defeated. His Susanoo also failed to withstand Manji's attack, forcing Senichi to recognize the difference in their strength. 60 61

Senichi later received Manji's Gunbai, whose ability to reflect ninjutsu led the Uchiha to regard it as a potential clan heirloom. 63

Senichi later challenged Senju Shuichi while his Mangekyō-induced blindness rapidly worsened. His vision failed during the duel, allowing Shuichi to defeat him; Senichi's death became the origin of the entrenched Senju–Uchiha blood feud. 69 170

Following his experiences with Manji and the Tailed Beasts, Senichi prohibited clan members from attempting to capture or provoke Tailed Beasts. 69

Uchiha Fox's Rule

Uchiha Fox grew up as an orphan abused and excluded by other Uchiha because he lacked parents and had not awakened the Sharingan. 72

His bond with Uzuki Senju awakened his Two-Tomoe Sharingan when she revealed that she had been assigned to marry into the Uzumaki Clan. He later returned with a Three-Tomoe Sharingan, supplied intelligence on the Senju–Uzumaki alliance, and was promoted to detachment captain. 79 81

The Uchiha, coordinating with the Hagoromo Clan, disrupted the Senju–Uzumaki marriage alliance by attacking during the wedding period. Fox secretly employed the Underground Bounty Station to kill Uzuki's intended Uzumaki fiancé, but the ensuing ten-year conflict left the Uchiha defeated and in decline. 82

After ten years of war exposed the Uchiha elders' incompetence, Fox led a coup and became clan head. He framed his goal as saving the clan from decline rather than simply claiming power. 82

Fox publicly remade the Uchiha's reputation through aid to commoners and peace overtures to neighboring clans, including the Senju. Privately, he prepared expansion toward the Naka River and faked his own assassination to mislead the Senju. 83

He killed Uzuki to awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan, then used her death and his staged funeral to launch a surprise offensive. The Uchiha captured both Naka River strongholds and inflicted a crushing defeat on the Senju. 85 86

Fox's Mangekyō ability was Izanagi, which allowed him to turn his apparent death into illusion and return to safety. Its repeated use, however, worsened the decline of his eyesight. 90 94

A year after his apparent death, Fox had become blind. He adapted by honing his nonvisual senses and swordsmanship, then returned to defeat Senju Futian and restore Uchiha morale. 95

Sha's Defeat

Uchiha Sha became the first female clan head in the clan's history. She presided over the Naka Shrine's rites but refused to kneel before the Sage of Six Paths despite clan custom. 100

Sha was recognized as the fastest fighter in the Ninja World, with a Body Flicker Technique that even the Hyuga Clan Head had reportedly been unable to match. 121

Black Zetsu exploited Sha's mistrust of the Hagoromo Clan, fractured their alliance, and induced the Fuma Clan to attack the Uchiha. The Senju–Uzumaki alliance then confronted the isolated Uchiha at Mount Kikyo. 111 130

Sha was defeated, committed suicide, and Senju Tsuru ordered the Uchiha Clan's annihilation. 130

Konoha Era

In a later era, Elder Manji backed Uchiha Tajima's succession over Uchiha Wei, exiling Wei after he opposed Tajima's appointment. 171 172

As Great Elder, Manji reorganized the Uchiha Clan's resource distribution, defenses, and logistics. Tajima subsequently proposed unifying the Land of Fire's ninja clans through a village built on support rather than indiscriminate slaughter. 174

The Uchiha acquired authorization to build a village, named it Konoha, and invited the major ninja clans to join. The Hyuga Clan was the first to relocate there. 175

Konoha's early development dismantled exclusive clan military structures by establishing a ninja academy and regular ninja army integrating Uchiha, Hyuga, and commoner shinobi. 176

Under Manji's guidance, the younger Madara and Izuna had little inherited hostility toward the Senju. Both awakened their Mangekyō Sharingan after Tajima was assassinated, and Konoha's leadership subsequently launched a campaign to unify the Land of Fire. 180 184

Izanagi Crisis and Hawk Purge

Izanagi later spread through the clan, causing users to lose their Sharingan after employing the forbidden technique. The dispute over whether to preserve or destroy it developed into internal strife that Izuna struggled to contain. 220

Uchiha Chirori sought a solution to the crisis and encountered an elderly man who claimed to be Uchiha Fox's father, though the man's identity and the consequences of their meeting were not confirmed. 220

When Uchiha Tekka, Yashiro, and Inabi attempted to assassinate Manji's son Wanzhao, Manji demanded their arrest and decided the clan's uncontrolled Mangekyō awakenings posed an unacceptable threat. 274 275

Manji ordered Itachi to remove only the Hawk faction, promising the safety of Itachi's family. Following the operation, Itachi was directed to infiltrate Akatsuki as a Konoha agent. 276

Manji and Minato weakened the Uchiha Hawks by sending core radicals on dangerous external missions. Uchiha Itachi then eliminated the remaining Hawk members inside the clan compound; part of the clan survived, though additional killings in the southern district remained unexplained. 277

Parallel-World Continuity

In a parallel world encountered after Manji departed to explore the cosmos, Uchiha Fox retained his Mangekyō Sharingan and resolved to break the cycle of Indra and Asura's conflict. He became the youngest elder in Uchiha history and formed a relationship with Uzuki Senju despite their clans' enmity. 404

Fox subsequently reorganized the clan's internal leadership and became clan head. He later chose to sever his bond with this world's Uzuki, whose memories and experiences differed from those of the Uzuki he had known before. 412 413

Fox later concealed a scroll explaining Izanagi's true essence at Fox-Fall Cliff and carved his sword techniques into the cliff before disappearing from public history. 418

In the same continuity, a transmigrated Uchiha Tajima initially reformed the clan by reducing border patrols, changing chakra training, elevating younger members to logistical and intelligence positions, and seeking ties with neutral clans. Tai remained behind when Madara went to capture Kurama, recognizing that his newly awakened One-Tomoe Sharingan and limited chakra could not meaningfully help. Madara subdued the Nine-Tails with Mangekyō genjutsu, then decided to return for Tai after discovering and killing several of Tobirama's covert troops nearby. 454

In a later account involving Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen, the transmigrated branch-family member Che Uchiha sought a Three-Tomoe or Mangekyō Sharingan and began scrutinizing missions assigned to the clan. He was killed on a border mission arranged to appear as an encounter with powerful enemies; the clan collected his body, and his training notes and copied scroll fragments were destroyed.
