Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as Yu Yuanzhen’s younger son and Yu Mingxiao’s twin brother. Before his awakening, he was confident that his father’s bloodline would give him exceptional talent; he dismissed Yu Mingxiao’s physical training and claimed theoretical knowledge mattered more. Yu Yuanzhen initially favored him for his intelligence, charm, and ability to present himself well. 1 2

At his martial soul awakening, the dragon phantom he initially believed to be a Holy Giant Dragon shattered. He awakened the malformed pig-like martial soul Luo Sanpao and tested at only half a level of Innate Soul Power. Humiliated before the clan’s guests, he fled the hall; his resentment intensified when Yu Mingxiao subsequently awakened the Golden Sacred Dragon with Innate Full Soul Power. 3

Yu Xiaogang repeatedly tried to direct or interfere with Yu Mingxiao’s cultivation, including proposing unsuitable soul-beast choices. As Yu Mingxiao’s strength and status rose, Xiaogang increasingly regarded his brother as having stolen the talent that should have been his. 4 9 27

He begins with complete confidence in his inherited talent, but Luo Sanpao’s mutation turns that confidence into a lasting inferiority complex.
