Background / History

Thrall was raised as Blackmoore's Orc slave at Durnholde, though he received an unusually thorough education for a captive. Taretha and her family cared for him during his childhood; Taretha's mother nursed him, and Thrall later regarded Taretha as a sister. 134 164 764

After human guards slaughtered fifty-four elderly Orcs, Thrall resolved to escape. He led a small group out of the camp, then unwillingly became responsible for more than two hundred escaped Orcs as they fled human patrols. Grom Hellscream's Warsong Clan rescued them from an ambush, exposing Thrall to the fighting spirit he believed his people had lost. 133

Grom recognized Thrall's Frostwolf pelt and connected him to the Frostwolf Clan. In Alterac Valley, Drek'Thar determined that Thrall was likely Durotan's son and accepted him as an apprentice. Thrall became a formal shaman, then defeated Orgrim Doomhammer in a challenge and chose to join Orgrim's effort to free the remaining interned Orcs. 134 164
