Nielas Aran became a Master-rank mage at thirty and served as Stormwind's court archmage. He was renowned in the city as handsome, wealthy, and unattached, attracting persistent attention from noblewomen. He was also a peripheral member of the Council of Tirisfal, responding to its notices to eliminate demons without knowing the organization’s deeper secrets. 37 50 51 61

He encountered the High Elf mage “Aviana” while dealing with a demon that had destroyed a nearby town. After rescuing her from the demon, he accepted her company and gifts despite previously ignoring other admirers. Aviana was in fact Magna Aegwynn, the Guardian of Azeroth, who had selected Aran as the father of her intended successor. 50 53

Aran married Aegwynn in a rushed and initially secretive ceremony at Stormwind's royal palace. When Aegwynn's disguise failed and she was forced to flee the Council, Karen revealed that his wife was the former Guardian.
