Background / History

During the Warring States Period, the Uchiha Clan stood as an equal to the Senju Clan. The Shimura and Sarutobi clans were described as lesser allies of the Senju at the time. 5

The clan was later marginalized within Konoha. After the Nine-Tails attack, its compound was moved from the village center to the outskirts, a decision Qingcheng attributes to Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzo’s long-term suppression of the Uchiha. 2 The clan retained its traditional association with the Konoha Police Force, including documented autonomy and appointment authority. 75

Before the massacre, internal divisions existed between the more conciliatory Doves and more militant Hawks. Their meetings at Naka Shrine repeatedly debated a coup, but the clan’s alleged rebellion is characterized as slogans and factional arguments rather than decisive action. 33 74

On the night of the massacre, Itachi killed Uchiha civilians from infants to elders, while Obito participated as a principal attacker.
