Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Dual Rings bearer | 244 | Roke gives Ace the divine rings Big Dipper and Minami Yuko. They convert stamina into The Force, allowing rudimentary electromagnetic manipulation. Ace crushes and levitates a can during his first attempt. 244 |
| Marine combat trainee | 254–256 | Receives a Lightsaber, pistol, ordinary and special ammunition, and instruction in Ashina-style swordsmanship. He defeats Arlong Pirate officers while prioritizing their leaders to force the remaining pirates’ surrender. 254 256 |
| Enhanced Force user | 272 | After more than a month of modification by the Dual Rings, Ace can skillfully manipulate metal and uses metal plates in his shoes and inner armor for indirect flight. 272 |
| Build System user | 278–279 | Vegapunk measures his Hazard Level at 4.4 and equips him with the Build Driver. Nebula Gas and the Dual Rings improve his constitution; without the system he reaches Headquarters-colonel level, while transformation raises him to roughly Headquarters rear-admiral level. 278 279 |
| Admiral-class candidate | 288–295 | Rasa draws out and enhances Ace’s Haoshoku Haki. Ace later demonstrates all three forms of Haki, Force lightning, metal manipulation, Cosmic Sword Style, and Dragon Lock Form; his ordinary combat ability is assessed as above a Headquarters vice admiral. 288 293 295 |
| Ultraman ACE fusion | 296 | After Blackbeard nearly kills him, Ace is restored and fused with Ultraman ACE. He can initially use roughly 20% of ACE’s power, becoming a ten-meter giant for about three minutes; the form grants overwhelming psychokinesis, speed, physical power, energy attacks, and dismemberment techniques. 296 |
Background / History
Ace is Roger’s biological son and Garp’s adopted grandson. He and Luffy spent only about a month each year with Garp; for the rest of their childhood, they lived with the mountain bandit Dadan. Shanks’ idealization of piracy and Luffy’s ambitions influenced Ace’s decision to go to sea. 237 243
On January 1, Ace formed the Spade Pirates and rapidly gained notoriety. By the time the Marines found him in Loguetown, he was recovering from injuries and seeking a new ship for his crew. 237 239
Appearance
Ace is a black-haired young man. As a Marine lieutenant commander, he wears a custom black suit, a handmade justice cloak, sunglasses, and leather shoes. 269
- During his Sabaody infiltration, he wears a black shirt, black pants, and a black leather coat. 294
- In his Ultraman ACE form, he becomes a roughly ten-meter red-and-silver giant. 296
Personality
Ace begins as a confident pirate captain willing to take risks for his crew. His Loguetown escape plan—taking Roke hostage to force a passage through the Marine blockade—shows both tactical thinking and his willingness to shoulder danger personally. 241 242
Roke’s arguments about freedom, law, and responsibility force Ace to reconsider piracy. He chooses the Marines not merely to avoid punishment, but because he accepts Roke’s vision of becoming a “King of Heroes” who guides others through his actions. 243 244
He remains impulsive and hot-blooded. Ace is eager to act immediately against Arlong, and later tries to invoke Ultraman ACE’s power during a confrontation with Shanks out of anger rather than justice; ACE refuses him. 252 300 His developing sense of restraint is reflected in his effort to eliminate pirate leaders while giving lower-ranking enemies an opportunity to surrender. 256
Abilities & Skills
The Force and Electromagnetic Manipulation
The Dual Rings allow Ace to sense The Force and convert stamina into electromagnetic power. His applications develop from moving small metal objects to metal control, flight assistance, lightning attacks, and light-based deception. 244 272 294 301
- Manipulates metal through magnetic fields. 244 272
- Uses metal plates in his footwear and inner armor to fly indirectly. 272
- Produces a false invitation through Visible Light Manipulation during his Sabaody undercover operation. 294
- Calls down lightning with Nine Heavens Thunder God. 301
- His early Force output is restricted by the difference between his life essence and Rasa’s. 244
Haki
Ace possesses all three forms of Haki by the Sabaody conflict. 295
- Observation Haki — Scouts targets and identifies details such as the design of an invitation. 294
- Armament Haki — Used alongside his swordsmanship and other combat methods against Blackbeard. 295
- Haoshoku Haki — Rasa enhances Ace’s latent Conqueror’s Haki; Ace later unleashes it at a level compared to Shanks’ to suppress pirates at Sabaody. 288 294
Swordsmanship
Ace trains in Ashina-style swordsmanship and later uses Roke’s adaptive Cosmic Sword Style. 254 295
- Fights with a Lightsaber rather than conventional steel. 244 256
- Combines swordsmanship with Haki, electromagnetic abilities, and close-quarters combat. 295
Build System
Vegapunk’s Build Driver allows Ace to draw on Artificial Devil Fruit-derived power without the ordinary weaknesses of Devil Fruit users. 278
- Ace uses Dragon Lock Form against Blackbeard. 295
- The system enhances an already strengthened body but cannot overcome Blackbeard in their prolonged duel. 295
Ultraman ACE Fusion
Ultraman ACE saves Ace after his body and will are shattered by Blackbeard’s Dark-Dark Fruit. The two become beings of “one heart and one body.” 296
- Restores Ace from near death and completely heals his injuries. 295 296
- Grants a giant transformation with powerful electromagnetic psychokinesis. 296
- Ace Electric Kick — A high-speed, energy-charged flying kick that destroys Blackbeard’s heart. 296
- Vertical Guillotine — A jagged wheel of light used to behead Blackbeard. 296
- Attack Beam — A thermal beam that melts, boils, or vaporizes locked-on targets. 297
- Each use deepens the fusion; after a third fusion, Ace would cease to exist as an independent individual. 296 297
- ACE refuses to lend its power when Ace seeks transformation for personal anger rather than protection or justice. 300
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Big Dipper and Minami Yuko — Dual Rings containing drops of divine blood; grant a fixed ability sub-system and access to The Force. 243 244
- Lightsaber — Given by Roke and powered through The Force. 244
- Pistol and ammunition — Used alongside his swordsmanship; Roke provides ordinary bullets for regular practice. 254
- Build Driver — Transformation belt developed by Vegapunk for wielding Artificial Devil Fruit power. 278
- Metal footwear plates and light inner armor — Controlled through electromagnetic power to support flight and mobility. 272
Relationships
- Roke Skywalker — Teacher and mentor. Roke captures Ace in Loguetown, persuades him to abandon piracy, gives him the Dual Rings and Lightsaber, and intends to shape him into the Marines’ future “King of Heroes.” 242 244 271
- Monkey D. Garp — Adoptive grandfather. Roke publicly criticizes Garp’s failure to raise Ace within the Marines, while Garp ultimately supports Ace’s recruitment and future placement. 237 238 257
- Gol D. Roger — Biological father. Ace’s identity as Roger’s son is central to Roke’s plan to make him a public symbol against the Great Pirate Era. 237 238
- Monkey D. Luffy — Sworn brother. Both were shaped by Shanks and Dadan, but Ace ultimately chooses Marine service while Luffy continues toward piracy. 243
- Deuce — Ace’s first Spade Pirates crewmate and ship doctor. He helps assess the Marine blockade in Loguetown. 241
- Momousagi Gion — Marine ally and operational partner. She leads the response to Ace’s hostage incident, later coordinates his Sabaody infiltration, and comes to respect his heroism. 242 294 297
- Marshall D. Teach / Blackbeard — Enemy who exposes Ace’s undercover identity and nearly kills him at Sabaody. Ace kills him after fusing with Ultraman ACE. 294 296
- Ultraman ACE — Fusion partner who saves Ace’s life and lends him immense power at the risk of eventually erasing Ace’s independent identity. 296 297
- Silvers Rayleigh — Roger’s former companion. Rayleigh attempts to reach Ace during the Blackbeard battle and supports Ace’s decision to join the Marines. 295
- Shanks — A major early influence on Ace’s view of piracy. Ace later faces him as a Marine and considers using ACE’s power against him. 243 299 300
Story Role / Major Arcs
Loguetown Recruitment
Ace attempts to break the Marine blockade by holding Roke hostage and negotiating his crew’s escape. Roke turns the situation around, captures him, and confronts him about the consequences of piracy. Ace ultimately surrenders, becomes Roke’s disciple, and accepts the Dual Rings and Lightsaber. 241 244
East Blue Reforms
Accompanying Roke to Cocoyasi Village, Ace learns that even small acts such as stealing matter for a Marine. He fights the Arlong Pirates, targets their leadership, and demonstrates a more disciplined interpretation of mercy and justice. 252 256
Marine Advancement
Ace joins the Discipline Inspection Department under Roke and Sengoku. Following his enhancement through the Build System, he becomes captain of the Masked Legion’s Third Division and later receives appointment as one of the Navy’s Three Admirals. 257 279 293
Sabaody Undercover Operation
Disguised as “Chen Ace Yongren,” Ace infiltrates a gathering of major pirates at Sabaody. Blackbeard identifies him, triggering a battle in which Ace holds off numerous pirates and fights Teach across multiple islands. 294 295
Fusion with Ultraman ACE
After Blackbeard beats him to the brink of death, Ace is revived through fusion with Ultraman ACE. In giant form, he kills Blackbeard, disperses the pirate forces, and uses Attack Beam to target criminal activity across Sabaody. 295 297
