Background

Mavis was a six-year-old orphan forced to work for the Red Lizard guild because of her parents' debt. Guild master Gizeluf and the other members treated her as a servant, destroyed her books, and even took away her only shoes. Despite this abuse, she remained compassionate; when she saw Lu Qiming apparently falling from the sky, she ran to seek help for him while barefoot. 128

Lu Qiming paid Red Lizard to release her from the debt, hired her as his guide, and provided food, lodging, books, and new clothing. Mavis initially remained cautious, but quickly came to trust him. 128 129

At the Fairy Clinic on Tenrou Island, Mavis asked to learn magic. Lu Qiming trained her in physical conditioning, swordsmanship, close-quarters combat, meditation, and magic; his teachings shaped her ideal of a “true Mage” who could fight at any range. 131 134
