Background / History

Falan was an ordinary office worker from another world before awakening in an alley in Orario with no memory of how he arrived. He chose the name “Falan” because his original name did not fit his new environment. Initially homeless, he learned that Valis was essential to survival and sought stable work rather than remaining a beggar. 1

After being rejected by several establishments, Falan found employment at the Golden Ring restaurant. He worked there for three years, learning magic and combat while saving enough money to purchase a house. Although he had friends among the staff, he left without saying goodbye to pursue the life of an adventurer. 3 4

At the Adventurer’s Guild, Falan deliberately sought a fallen Familia rather than a major one, reasoning that an overlooked organization would offer better chances for advancement and less political danger. He ultimately joined the declining Soma Familia and received Soma’s Blessing. 5 7 8

His first Dungeon expedition revealed the extraordinary utility of his Life Magic. The exposure of his Backpack ability made him a target of interest to major Familias, while Soma’s disbandment of the old Soma Familia forced Falan and Soma to leave its former headquarters. 9 10 11 13

Falan later served as the Freya Familia expedition’s portable supply carrier, earning the nickname “Big Backpack.” During the expedition, he descended as far as the fifty-ninth floor and witnessed the defeat of the Frost Giant Ymir, which led to his acquisition of the Child of the Dark Elf bloodline and a sealed Spirit Weapon. 21 22 23 24

Following his advancement to Lv.2, Falan established a supply-transport contract with Rivira Town. His repeated deliveries reduced supply prices on the 18th Floor and expanded his influence among Dungeon adventurers. 30 31

After becoming captain of the rebuilt Soma Familia, Falan organized an expedition team consisting of Al, Yunika, and Liliruca. He trained them through a joint expedition, allowing monsters through his own attacks so that they could develop their coordination and gain experience. 31 34 35 36

Appearance

Falan is described as having an ordinary, easily overlooked face. He commonly conceals himself with a hood when attention surrounding his Backpack magic becomes dangerous. 13 31

  • Wore a light third-class adventurer set when first entering the Dungeon:
    • Agility-enhancing cloak
    • Speed-enhancing boots
    • Special-material tunic and leather pants
    • Longsword
    • Crossbow 8
  • Is physically capable of carrying large expedition stores through his Backpack rather than on his person. 21 22

Personality

Falan is practical and survival-oriented. His earliest priorities in Orario are finding work, earning money, and avoiding unnecessary risks. This caution also shapes his choice to join a fallen Familia, conceal exceptional abilities, and refuse rewards that would make him even more conspicuous. 1 5 24

Despite this restraint, he possesses a determined and occasionally reckless drive for power. Falan believes strength is the only reliable protection in a world of monsters, hostile adventurers, gods, and the remnants of the Evils. He therefore chooses rapid advancement and dangerous solo Dungeon exploration even when Soma recommends building a safer foundation. 26 27 28

As captain, he is supportive but firm. He recognizes Yunika’s potential despite her lack of confidence, accepts Liliruca’s resourceful use of a Magic Sword, and selects expedition members based on adaptability rather than reputation. 34 35

Abilities & Skills

Life Magic

Falan’s original magic is an exceptionally versatile set of storage, collection, restoration, and marking functions. 11

  • Backpack
    • Initially stores up to 1,000 slots of items. 11
    • Can store filled containers as a single slot, making its logistics value exceptionally high. 12
    • Automatically collects nearby drops, including items from battles Falan did not personally participate in. 17
    • Has an approximately 100-meter automatic-collection radius. 17
    • Capacity increases by another 1,000 slots through One-Man Caravan. 32
  • Clear
    • Automatically gathers dropped items. 9 11
    • Can erase everything within a designated area when invoked. 11
    • Its use appears governed by equivalent exchange: erasing a monster costs a life for a life. 14
  • Recover
    • Restores an item’s durability when placed in the recovery slot. 11
  • Mark
    • Marks one object within Falan’s line of sight, with potential tracking applications. 11

Destruction Magic

A dark-attribute branch derived through Magic Weaving and centered on the command word “Clear.” 20

  • Can wipe out groups of Dungeon monsters. 21 28
  • A full woven incantation provides greater power, lower mana consumption, and finer control than simply casting “Clear.” 28
  • Its unmodified rapid casting consumes substantial mana. 28

Magic Weaving and Child of the Dark Elf

Falan initially gains Magic Weaving (Dark), allowing him to create magic by invoking “Dark Elf” in the first line of an incantation. 20

  • Dark Elf’s Favor
    • Enhances dark-attribute magic.
    • Improves mana recovery, with doubled recovery at night. 20
  • Child of the Dark Elf
    • Evolves Magic Weaving into flexible, intent-based casting.
    • Allows spells to be activated with a few words or a single syllable. 25
    • Enhances magic effects, doubling dark-type effects.
    • Increases magical range and area of effect.
    • Reinforces mana and improves resistance to abnormal environments. 25
  • Uses darkness to extinguish light and obstruct enemies’ vision. 42
  • Uses Darkness: Blade Downpour against powerful enemies, including Goliath. 37
  • Develops Darkness: Arrow Cloud Shower against evolved Black Scorpion monsters. 48

Mage

Falan selects Mage as his Lv.2 Development Ability, valuing its versatile and comparatively safe path to magical growth. 27

  • Lets him vary spell effects and output. 27
  • Enables him to massacre groups of mid-floor monsters with single spells. 29
  • Advances to unlock:
    • High-Speed Incantation
    • Parallel Incantation 39

Darkness

A rare Development Ability obtained upon reaching Lv.3. 40

  • Improves from I to F by the time of Falan’s return from the World’s End mission. 50
  • Supports his darkness-based combat style and spellcasting. 42 48

One-Man Caravan

A skill gained after Falan’s Lv.2 growth. 32

  • Adds 1,000 Backpack slots.
  • Provides stat bonuses based on the number of occupied storage slots.
  • Grants an Endurance-growth bonus. 32

Witness of History

A reward skill gained after witnessing the unprecedented subjugation of Ymir. 25

  • Raises all attribute stats by an additional 5%. 25

Blessing of Artemis

A blessing gained during the World’s End mission. 50

  • Raises all attributes by 50%.
  • Raises magic recovery speed by 50%.
  • Raises combat power by 50%. 50

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Sealed Spirit Weapon — obtained after witnessing Ymir’s defeat; remains unsealed after Falan chooses all-S attributes instead of unlocking it. 24 29 41
  • Third-class adventurer gear — cloak, boots, tunic, leather pants, longsword, and crossbow selected from the Soma Familia captain’s office. 8
  • Magic swords — purchased on credit from the Hephaestus Familia in preparation for the Freya Familia expedition. 18
  • Grimoire — received from Captain Mia for self-preservation and magical study. 19
  • Backpack inventory — contains expedition supplies, trade goods, monster drops, and the sealed Spirit Weapon. 21 22 30

  • Amaline Bartley Livia — Adventurer’s Guild elf attendant who supports Falan’s decision to seek a fallen Familia. 5
  • Eina — Guild staff member who warns Falan that his Backpack magic makes him a target. 10
