Wencai carried Qiusheng on his back and had only been running for half an hour when they reached the Public Mortuary.
The Public Mortuary felt rather empty at the moment, since one person was away.
That made the already gloomy place seem even more terrifying now.
Of course, Wencai had long since grown used to it.
Without a second thought, he carried Qiusheng to the quiet room where Uncle Nine usually practiced. He gently laid him on the floor, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and panted softly.
"Good grief, I'm exhausted. I wonder what's gotten into Master. He actually made me carry Qiusheng back to the Public Mortuary all by myself. I'm completely worn out."
After grumbling, Wencai was about to go back to his bed and rest for a while. But when he looked at Qiusheng, who was lying unconscious on the floor,
he suddenly remembered his master's earlier instructions. With no other choice, he lay down in the quiet room where his master practiced and rested.
Not even half an incense stick's time had passed before thunderous snores rang out beside Qiusheng.
Wencai had simply lain down on the floor and fallen asleep. As he slept, drool trickled from the corner of his mouth while he mumbled to himself.
"Chicken legs are delicious. Master, I want some."
Neither of the brothers noticed the silent figure that appeared outside the practice room while one was unconscious and the other fast asleep.
The figure stood in the doorway for a long while, then finally left without a word.
In the hall of the Public Mortuary where Ren Weiyong's coffin was kept, the mysterious figure gazed at the coffin covered in Ink Marker lines and spoke in a cold, indifferent voice.
"Ren Weiyong, you stole my burial site all those years ago and ruined my plans. In the end, I couldn't ascend to the heavens in a single bound."
"Today, I'll make all your blood relatives fall into the path of the undead, never to be reincarnated!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he reached out and began wiping away the Ink Marker lines on the coffin.
The moment his hand touched the lines, golden light burst forth, as if to force his hand away.
Unfortunately, the devil was a match for the gods. Though the golden light shone brightly, the great hand still wiped it away completely.
"Hmph. Lin Jiu, you truly are one of the most outstanding disciples of the Maoshan sect in a hundred years. But your tricks are useless against me!"
At last, the Ink Marker lines suppressing the zombie that Old Master Ren had become, keeping him from breaking out, were completely erased. The figure vanished from the spot without a sound.
Everything had happened silently. The figure had come and gone in a flash, leaving no trace behind in the Public Mortuary!
About half an incense stick after the figure left, a thunderous boom rang out. Ren Weiyong's coffin exploded, sending splinters flying everywhere.
Amid the swirling splinters, a zombie in a Bird-Patterned Robe stood motionless. It let out a low growl from its throat, then hopped toward the quiet practice room where Wencai and Qiusheng were.
But just as it was about to break through the door, a Bagua Diagram suddenly rose from inside the room. The formidable aura of the Dao kept the zombie from taking another step, and it could only retreat in silence.
Neither Qiusheng nor Wencai noticed any of this.
One was unconscious and the other fast asleep. Even the commotion of Ren Weiyong's emergence hadn't disturbed them.
It was just as well they hadn't been disturbed. With Qiusheng so badly injured and Wencai as useless as ever, the two of them together would barely have made a mouthful for the zombie.
The zombie left, its destination unknown. The two men in the quiet room remained asleep. Still, when they woke and saw what had happened in the Public Mortuary, their expressions would surely be priceless.
Time passed, and in the blink of an eye, night had fallen. Wencai stirred from his hazy sleep, stretched, wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth, and wandered out of the quiet room.
He strolled around the Public Mortuary, found something to eat, and filled his stomach. Just as he was about to return to the quiet room and shake Qiusheng awake to ask if he wanted anything to eat, the corner of his eye caught sight of the splinters from Ren Weiyong's shattered coffin. He was instantly shocked.
"Qiusheng! Qiusheng! This is bad! Old Master Ren's turned into a zombie!"
His repeated shouts woke Qiusheng from his unconsciousness. He slowly opened his eyes.
Seeing Wencai hurrying over to him, he rasped,
"Don't panic. Take your time and tell me what happened."
"Senior Brother, Old Master Ren's coffin exploded, and the corpse is gone!" Wencai stared at Qiusheng as he spoke.
The moment he heard that, Qiusheng's expression changed. He shouted angrily,
"How is that possible? We covered that coffin with Ink Marker lines. How could it have gotten out?"
"Cough, cough, cough."
His agitation seemed to aggravate his injuries, and he broke into a fit of coughing. Then he asked Wencai,
"Where's Master? Isn't he at the Public Mortuary?"
"Master's not here. After that incident at noon, he left with Uncle Four Eyes. They haven't come back yet."
"Then go find Master and tell him what happened at the Public Mortuary. Hurry, you have to be quick! Otherwise, the whole of Ren Family Town will be in chaos."
Qiusheng grabbed Wencai's hand and instructed him.
After hearing his senior brother, Wencai hesitated briefly, but eventually nodded and replied,
"Senior Brother, I understand. Master and the others should still be at Ren Mansion. I'll go there now."
With that, Wencai didn't waste any time. He tidied himself up a little, hung a Bagua Mirror on his chest and another on his back, stuffed plenty of Zombie-Suppressing Talismans and Evil-Warding Talismans into his pockets, and left the Public Mortuary.
Left alone in the quiet room, Qiusheng found some food to fill his stomach, then began figuring out how to recover from his injuries.
Most of the injuries on his body were external wounds caused by the power of thunder, which didn't affect him too much.
The real source of his discomfort was the wisps of yin energy the White-Robed Ghost had driven into his body.
Of course, the problem wasn't difficult to solve.
After all, he was a cultivator, and his cultivation had even reached the Occult Master level. He had achieved a modest degree of success in his training.
Getting rid of the yin energy in his body would take no more than ten days or half a month.
But the situation was urgent. Who knew how much trouble Old Master Ren would cause by then—or whether Ren Tingting would perish at his hands?
