History
Lonely Mountain Expedition
Gandalf sought an additional capable companion for Thorin Oakenshield's hazardous journey to the Lonely Mountain and offered Morgan a commission to join the Dwarven company. Thorin's approval was necessary because the expedition concerned the former kingdom of Durin's Folk. 3
Morgan's combat record quickly earned him the Company's respect. He slew three Trolls on the East Road, killed the Goblin King during the escape from the underground kingdom, and saved Thorin from Azog's forces by killing Azog's White Warg. 116
The expedition survived the Stone Giants' battle, imprisonment in the Goblin Underground Kingdom, pursuit by Azog's Warg-riders, and rescue by the Great Eagles. 53 65 70 Its members later crossed Mirkwood, fought corrupted spiders, escaped captivity, and reached Lake-town while pursued by Orcs. 82 90 100
Fellowship of the Ring
At the Council of Elrond, Frodo volunteered to carry the One Ring to Mordor. Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Boromir, Samwise, Merry, Pippin, and Morgan joined him, forming a ten-member Fellowship. 193 194
The Fellowship departed Rivendell under Frodo's lead. Gandalf served as guide, Legolas kept watch, the Hobbits handled meals, and Morgan trained Frodo and Samwise for the dangers ahead. 194 196

Moria and Dissolution
In Moria, the Company faced the Watcher at the West-gate, navigated the ruined Dwarven kingdom, and discovered that Gollum was following them. 200
When a Balrog pursued the Fellowship, Gandalf and Morgan remained behind at the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. The bridge collapsed during the battle, and both fell into the abyss with the Balrog, leaving Aragorn to lead the grief-stricken Company toward Lothlórien. 201 202
Gandalf and Morgan survived and later caught up with the others near the Falls of Rauros. By then, Boromir had tried to seize the Ring, Frodo and Sam had departed for Mordor, and Merry and Pippin had been taken by Uruk-hai. 205 209 210
