Background / History

Tobirama helped establish Konoha alongside his elder brother, Hashirama Senju, and Madara Uchiha. He recalls that the early village suffered from internal friction between the Senju and Uchiha, little trust from clients, scarce funding, and a lack of capable administrators. Konoha’s position improved after it brought in the Sarutobi, Shimura, and Ino–Shika–Cho clans, then formed a marriage alliance with Uzushiogakure. 8

He considers trust and shared perception—not raw military strength—the root requirements for lasting peace. Tobirama explains that Hashirama could not unify the ninja world by force without risking Konoha’s destruction through exhaustion, assassination, retaliatory attacks, and the collapse of the new village’s legitimacy. 8

During the clan-war era, Tobirama used forbidden techniques that damaged his body and contributed to his later physical decline. 9
