Background / History

Madara helped Hashirama Senju establish Konoha, bringing the Uchiha Clan into the village and participating in their initial peace. The alliance did not erase the hatred between clans, however, and conflict remained within the newly founded village 8.

He later came to believe that Hashirama had betrayed the future they could have created by refusing to rule and unify the ninja world by force. Madara's response was to pursue the Eye of the Moon Plan: using a world-spanning genjutsu to give humanity an eternal, desire-fulfilling peace 9 26.

By the time of the Third Ninja World War, Madara is extremely aged and survives through external means. He retains enough power for a brief battle by donning a White Zetsu body, but accepts that he cannot sustain prolonged combat 21. Sensing Izuna Uchiha's chakra within Murata Qingtan, he concludes that Senju Tobirama has desecrated his brother's soul through Reanimation Jutsu and personally moves to confront him 14 21.

Appearance

Madara is depicted as a long-haired man in armor during his confrontation with Qingtan, but his true aged body is described as withered and near death. He temporarily restores a youthful appearance through Yin-Yang Release and Izanagi, only for that state to deteriorate as the battle progresses 14 21 24 25 27.

Personality

Madara is intensely proud, confrontational, and driven by a belief that only overwhelming power can settle ideological disputes. He considers a ninja's proper death to be on the battlefield and is exhilarated by a worthy fight, even while his aging body fails him 25.

His devotion to Izuna is absolute. The possibility that Izuna's soul has been manipulated is what drives him to risk his remaining life against an opponent he believes to be Senju Tobirama 14 21. Even when summoned and restrained by Qingtan, Madara's first concern is Izuna's safety 28.

Madara rejects the ninja village system as hypocritical and fragile, but his proposed solution is an enforced peace through the Eye of the Moon Plan. Battle against Murata Qingtan

Madara follows the apparent traces of Tobirama's chakra and confronts Qingtan, who has assimilated the powers and techniques of Hashirama and Tobirama. Their conflict escalates from Wood Release and Susanoo to a debate over the future of the ninja world 24 25 26.

Madara reveals the Eye of the Moon Plan and refuses Qingtan's argument that true peace requires humanity to retain its ability to develop. He summons Complete Body Susanoo and the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, but Qingtan ultimately defeats him with Tai'a, whose Sage and sealing power disrupts Izanagi and destroys Madara's temporary state 26 27.

Summoned Soul

Qingtan later succeeds in summoning Madara and Izuna into his Mind Space. Madara manifests the Rinnegan, but Qingtan demonstrates that he can freeze and control the chakra of those he summons 28.

Although Madara continues to defend the Eye of the Moon Plan, Qingtan exposes unanswered contradictions in its supposed origin and implementation.
