On the tournament stage, the masked old man Son Gohan retreated repeatedly, forced to the edge of the ring by Son Wukong's fierce offensive.
In reality, however, Son Wukong was holding back; she was currently using the strength meant for a match rather than a life-or-death battle. Had she truly gone all out, the arms Son Gohan used to defend himself would have been shattered long ago.
To Son Wukong, this was an interesting match; though her opponent was weak, he was incredibly tenacious, as if he could see through her every move. For the masked old man, however, this was a life-threatening ordeal (even though he was already dead). As Son Wukong's grandfather, his familiarity with her, combined with his mastery of the Turtle Hermit School, sustained him and allowed him to miraculously hold on this long. Yet, the massive gap in combat power was insurmountable; unable to counterattack, Son Gohan could only step-by-step walk toward defeat.
After being knocked to the ground once more, the masked old man finally ceased his resistance.
"So strong." Lying on the ground and looking up at the sky, the old man spoke with a tone that carried a hint of melancholy and a touch of relief.
"Even without me, Wukong can live on her own now, can't she?"
"What are you talking about?" Faced with an opponent who had given up, Son Wukong naturally couldn't continue her assault, and she asked in confusion.
"How sad, you didn't even recognize me in the end?" Climbing up from the ground and dusting off his clothes, Son Gohan removed the rabbit mask from his face.
"It's me."
"Grand... Grandfather?"
Seeing the face she thought she would never see again, Son Wukong trembled all over, and tears flowed down uncontrollably.
"Grandfather!!"
She lunged into Son Gohan's arms and burst into loud, wailing sobs.
"Aren't you going to call him Grandfather?" On the sidelines, Bulma said to Zhang Wutian.
"Careful, or I'll beat up... your boyfriend." Zhang Wutian glanced at Bulma and said flatly.
Bulma, please, stop talking!! Yamcha's tears couldn't stop flowing either.
Son Gohan took Son Wukong's hand, and the two walked over to the others.
He first greeted his master, Master Roshi.
"Long time no see, Master."
"It has been a while. Though it feels strange to ask, how have you been in the afterlife?"
"Heh heh, I've been living quite happily in the afterlife."
After the group exchanged some pleasantries, Son Gohan approached Zhang Wutian.
"You must be Zhang Wutian? Wukong has told me a lot about you."
As he spoke, Son Gohan patted Zhang Wutian on the shoulder: "Not bad, a sturdy young man. You're a promising youth, and I thank you for taking care of Wukong."
"Actually, it's Wukong who takes care of me. If it weren't for her, I would have died when I first got lost in the mountains."
"A lost traveler, eh? I heard from Wukong that she used artificial respiration to save you back then." The kind-faced old man suddenly gave a mischievous wink.
At the mention of this, Zhang Wutian recalled what had happened back then.
The old man before him wasn't as upright as he looked; the artificial respiration technique Son Wukong had used was taught to her by this very lecherous old man.
"So it really was you who encouraged Wukong to do that?"
"Heh heh heh..." Son Gohan laughed triumphantly. He stroked Son Wukong's hair and said, "If I hadn't taught her that trick, my silly granddaughter might never have found a suitable husband in her entire life. This is perfect. Yes, you pass. As Wukong's only living relative, I approve of your marriage."
"Wait, what marriage? Don't make decisions on your own! I only cherish Wukong like a daughter, and besides, aren't you going to consider what Wukong wants?"
"Wukong, do you want to be with Zhang Wutian forever?"
"Yes!" Hearing her grandfather's question, Son Wukong nodded repeatedly.
"Then go over and hug him, and use the method I taught you to give him artificial respiration!"
The next moment, the very obedient Son Wukong immediately pounced on Zhang Wutian, repeatedly kissing his face.
"Idol, stop it!" Caught in her embrace, Zhang Wutian had to stretch his neck and dodge repeatedly.
"No, I have to listen to Grandfather."
"Heh heh heh, you've hugged and kissed already; do you intend to shirk responsibility, young man?" Son Gohan stood by, beaming with joy.
"Zhang Wutian, don't you want to be with me?" Son Wukong asked pitifully from his arms. Zhang Wutian found this version of Wukong so adorable that his heart softened involuntarily, making him want to agree to anything she asked.
However, unable to overcome the hurdle of Son Goku, Kakarot, and the "lolicon" stigma, and feeling ashamed of his own wavering, Zhang Wutian was forced to blurt out: "I cherish you like a daughter, and you actually want to get with me?! You're just a little Wukong; you're 10 years too early to marry me!!"
This was, of course, just a reflexive cliché, much like the line "You're just a hero, you're 10 years too early to beat me," but it was this very cliché that Son Gohan seized upon.
"In other words, you intend to marry my Wukong in 10 years, then? Well, although it's a bit late, Wukong will only be twenty-three or twenty-four by then, which is a perfectly acceptable age for marriage."
"Zhang Wutian, can we be together forever?" Although she didn't fully understand the specific meaning of marriage, Son Wukong had clearly set her heart on Zhang Wutian; she just wanted to be with him.
Looking at Wukong, looking at the smiling Son Gohan, and then glancing at the bystanders with their various expressions, the look on Zhang Wutian's face was quite complex.
To say he didn't want to be with Son Wukong would be a lie. Having been through so much, Zhang Wutian had long since accepted her as his inevitable companion and had already reserved a place for her by his side. Although he always joked that she was his daughter, if this "daughter" really brought a boyfriend home, the feelings of a father like Zhang Wutian could well be imagined.
But...
Looking at Son Wukong, who had the physique of an elementary schooler and the mind of a child, Zhang Wutian felt that one really shouldn't be that depraved; one had to have a basic bottom line.
"Wukong is still too young right now. In any case, we'll talk about this later!"
"You're blushing." Although Miss Bulma was a weakling with a combat power of only five, her eyes were quite sharp this time.
"Really, even your ears are turning red."
Yamcha's little companion, Puar, had been hovering in the air the entire time, allowing him to spot Zhang Wutian's unusual behavior from a different angle.
"Congratulations to you both on a lifetime of happiness. Zhang Wutian, you have to treat Wukong well; at the very least, you have to wait five years before doing that kind of thing, okay?" Yamcha, are you trying your hardest to get yourself killed?
"You bunch of gloating bastards..." Zhang Wutian gritted his teeth in anger, but the next moment, soft lips pressed against his. His irritation and embarrassment were soaked through by a cool, refreshing sensation, causing them to dissipate.
Looking down at Son Wukong, who had kissed him without fully understanding the meaning of the gesture and was now smiling at him with pure innocence, Zhang Wutian's heart softened.
"Zhang Wutian, I entrust Wukong to you. Please, I'm counting on you." Son Gohan spoke with deep sincerity, as if he were handing over his most precious possession to Zhang Wutian; this time, he appeared incredibly solemn.
Looking at the elderly Son Gohan, who was still worrying about his granddaughter even after death, Zhang Wutian found he could not bring himself to refuse, no matter what.
"You're all a bunch of messy people, I don't care anymore!!" Despite saying it so awkwardly, Zhang Wutian kept holding Wukong, never once putting her down.
Seeing this scene, the elderly Son Gohan stroked his snow-white beard with gratification and smiled in satisfaction.
It was a pity he wouldn't be able to see Wukong get married. If they had a child, it would probably be a sturdy little one, though it was a shame it wouldn't carry the Son name...
The old man, who could only exist in the living world for a single day, felt a deep sense of regret at this thought.
