Researching Senzu Beans

"So this is West City. The air here isn't bad at all."

Breathing in the clean, unpolluted air of the city, Lei Chen felt an inexplicable sense of relief. He took another deep breath, unable to stop himself from marveling at it.

This really is the Dragon Ball world. Even the air in the cities is this good. It seems there's a reason so many aliens flock to Earth; it can't just be because Son Goku is the protagonist.

As he thought this, Lei Chen headed toward the shops that sold food capsules and housing units.

Don't ask where Lei Chen got his money; naturally, it came from the hands of bandits.

Soon, Lei Chen arrived at an ordinary store. The shop was filled with small, five-to-six-centimeter-long capsules. Don't underestimate these little things; the space inside them is vast, with each one capable of holding anywhere from several tons to over a hundred tons of food.

An hour later, Lei Chen had bought every type of food he could find, spending all of his more than one billion zeni.

Lei Chen left West City, flew into the sky, and headed toward a random primeval forest.

Three days later, Lei Chen settled down in a primeval forest not far from West City—though "not far" was still over a thousand kilometers away.

During these three days, Lei Chen hadn't been training. Instead, he had been wandering around, seeking enlightenment in the ways of nature and researching how to produce Senzu Beans in large quantities.

On this day, Lei Chen unknowingly arrived at Mount Paozu, intending to catch some wild game to eat.

"Hello, Kakarot. Long time no see."

Lei Chen laughed.

Son Goku wiped away his sweat and gave a cheeky grin. He was hoeing the field; he usually practiced while working, never letting anything slide, while Chi-Chi took care of things at home.

"Hehe, Lei Chen, you're here! Are you looking to have another spar with me?"

As Son Goku spoke, his eyes filled with a fighting spirit as he looked at Lei Chen.

"No way, I don't have the time right now!"

Lei Chen hadn't succeeded in his Senzu Bean research yet, so he naturally didn't want to fight Son Goku. One had to remember that Senzu Beans were scarce on Earth, and if he got injured, it would take him a long time to recover.

Even though his recovery speed as a Super Saiyan God was much faster than before, the time for Beerus to arrive on Earth was drawing ever closer.

Since he had already transformed into a Super Saiyan God, if Beerus came to Earth, there was a nine-in-ten chance that he would become the target.

Lei Chen didn't have Son Goku's luck, being able to break through his limits time and time again. Furthermore, Son Goku's base power was several times higher than his own; if he transformed into a Super Saiyan God, he would likely be even more powerful than Lei Chen.

By his own calculations, Lei Chen needed his base strength to increase at least tenfold before he would have the power to fight Beerus when transformed into a Super Saiyan God.

"I heard from Korin that you're researching a way to grow more Senzu Beans. Have you succeeded yet?"

Son Goku sat on the grass beside Lei Chen and asked curiously.

"Just a little bit more to go!"

Lei Chen replied to Son Goku.

"You really are amazing!"

Son Goku said with some surprise.

"Heh, I'm a Super Saiyan God now. Anything that old cat Korin can figure out, I can naturally do as well."

Lei Chen said with a laugh.

"Super Saiyan God... how do you manage to transform into that state?"

Son Goku asked Lei Chen, puzzled. In truth, Son Goku had been researching the Super Saiyan God form for a long time over these past few days, but he hadn't had a single breakthrough or made any progress at all.
