Beerus was taken aback when he heard that.
He could have spent all that time eating delicious food.
But after hesitating again and again, he finally spoke.
"Let's go!"
Though he was somewhat displeased, Beerus still decided to make a trip to Earth for a lead on the Super Saiyan God.
"Whis, pack me a lunch!"
He could go without anything else, but he had to bring food.
Whis didn't refuse. He turned and left to prepare food for Beerus to take along.
"Super Saiyan God?"
Beerus rubbed his chin and murmured to himself, a look of anticipation in his eyes.
Across the universe, a light invisible to the naked eye streaked through the stars at an inconceivable speed.
It was moving far too fast.
Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that it had reached the maximum speed the universe could withstand.
If it went even a little faster, the universe would be unable to bear it. It would collapse under that speed and shatter.
Within this fastest light in the universe were two figures. They were none other than Whis and Beerus, on their way to Earth.
In the Supreme Kai World, the Old Supreme Kai wore a grave expression. He had never imagined that the terrifying fellow would awaken at this very moment.
"This is bad. Lord Beerus has awakened now. Given his nature, who knows how many planets will suffer the fate of destruction this time?"
The Old Supreme Kai clasped his hands behind his back and spoke gravely.
When it came to other people, the Old Supreme Kai might have been able to come up with a plan.
But when it came to Beerus, he couldn't think of anything at all.
That was only natural, considering Beerus had sealed the Old Supreme Kai inside the Z Sword all those years ago.
"Ancestor, since he's a god too, surely he can't be as evil as you say?"
Supreme Kai Shin looked at the Old Supreme Kai's grave expression as he spoke.
He, too, had sensed the powerful presence in the cosmos—a power so immense it was hard to imagine.
"You don't understand, Supreme Kai. Lord Beerus is the God of Destruction. Destruction is his duty, and the power he possesses is beyond imagination.
"Anyone who dares challenge Lord Beerus will come to no good. I'm not worried about anything else; I'm mainly worried about one person."
The Old Supreme Kai spoke gravely.
"You mean Mr. Goku?"
Supreme Kai Shin immediately realized.
"That's right, that reckless fool. If he offends Lord Beerus, the entire universe could very well be destroyed by him."
The Old Supreme Kai spoke with concern.
"Th-then is there anything we can do to prevent that from happening?"
Supreme Kai Shin was startled. Though he didn't know much about the God of Destruction, the Old Supreme Kai's grave expression told him the situation was far worse than he'd imagined.
"It's impossible. No one can stop Lord Beerus!"
The Old Supreme Kai shook his head helplessly.
Earth.
A day had passed since Soya, Son Goku, Son Gohan, and Vegeta entered the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
A day wasn't long, but Bulma's birthday was the next day.
Bulma had gone to great lengths to host the birthday party out on the sea, but in the end, Vegeta, Son Goku, and Son Gohan hadn't shown up.
That made Bulma a little angry.
Still, the party was going on in full swing.
Far away from Earth, Beerus and Whis were approaching at tremendous speed, drawing closer and closer.
At this rate, they would reach Earth in three minutes at most.
"Goku!"
Inside the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Son Goku was drenched in sweat from head to toe.
He had been fighting Vegeta and Son Gohan here, with no need to hold back at all.
This went on for a year, and Son Goku's strength had improved enormously.
And he wasn't the only one who had improved. Son Gohan and Vegeta had also made significant progress.
Vegeta's improvement was especially great, because he had an obsession driving him forward.
Though he still hadn't managed to transform into a Super Saiyan 3, his Super Saiyan form had grown much stronger.
Just as another round of fighting ended, a voice suddenly rang in the minds of Son Goku, Vegeta, and Son Gohan. They all knew who it belonged to.
"King Kai, is something up?"
The voice belonged to North Kai, who was communicating with Son Goku through his special antennae.
"Goku, Lord Beerus will reach Earth in about three minutes.
"His power is incredibly great. You mustn't offend him, or Earth—and possibly the entire universe—could be destroyed."
North Kai's anxious voice came through.
Son Goku wasn't the only one who heard him. Vegeta and Son Gohan heard him too.
"Lord Beerus?"
Son Goku was stunned. It was the first time he'd ever heard that name.
"That's right. Lord Beerus is the God of Destruction. You mustn't make him angry, or the consequences will be unthinkable."
North Kai warned them again.
"I understand."
Son Goku replied.
"Vegeta, Gohan, you two go on ahead. I'll stay here with Soya a little longer. I'll come out in a bit."
Son Goku turned to Vegeta and Son Gohan.
"Okay."
Vegeta agreed without hesitation.
"Soya, I'm leaving. King Kai said Lord Beerus is here. He sounds really strong."
Son Goku found the place where Soya was training by himself.
"Beerus? Is he here?"
Soya opened his eyes. A flash of golden light passed through them as he looked at Son Goku. He exhaled slowly and spoke.
"Apparently he'll reach Earth in about three minutes."
Son Goku nodded firmly.
"I see. Go on out first. I'm at a crucial point in my training. I'll come out when I'm finished."
Soya nodded.
"Soya, is the powerful fighter you said we couldn't match the same Lord Beerus the Supreme Kai mentioned?"
Son Goku asked, voicing the question that had been puzzling him. It was the main reason he'd stayed behind.
"Who knows? Maybe he is."
Soya didn't give him a definite answer. He merely replied like that.
"All right, then I'll go."
Seeing that Soya hadn't answered directly, Son Goku was a little disappointed, but he nodded and turned to leave.
"Whoosh!"
Son Goku moved incredibly fast. In an instant, he disappeared and shot out of the room, vanishing from sight in the blink of an eye.
After Son Goku left, the corner of Soya's mouth curled upward. He murmured,
"Beerus?"
Soya muttered to himself.
"I've been waiting for you for a long time!"
