In his daily life, Son Gohan was so bored he went and became the Great Saiyaman, leaving Son Goten speechless. Videl would think he was stealing her job! Even with that ridiculous outfit, Son Gohan still got found out by Videl.
"Teach me how to fly." On the school rooftop, Videl demanded that Son Gohan teach her, her confidence practically oozing. "Or I'll tell everyone the Great Saiyaman's real identity."
"I-I-I'll teach you, okay?" Son Gohan broke out in a cold sweat. What the hell is this? I still have school and training to worry about.
A triumphant smile tugged at Videl's lips. After all, flying was every person's dream, especially flying through the air without relying on anything.
"Then it's a deal," Videl said with a light laugh. "I'll come find you tomorrow."
Son Gohan wore a long face. What kind of situation was this?
"Oh, right," Videl added, as if she'd just remembered something. "Gohan, I hope you'll enter the World Martial Arts Tournament in a month."
"The World Martial Arts Tournament?" Son Gohan scratched his head in confusion. He didn't remember there being a World Martial Arts Tournament, but then again, after Son Goku and King Piccolo's battle had destroyed the arena, the organizers had been too afraid of another incident to hold one. They'd probably finally gotten over their fear.
"I remember the first-place prize is ten million," Videl said, making Son Gohan's eyebrows shoot up. His family was nearly out of money these days. If he won, maybe he could help them through this rough patch.
"Sure. I'll get going, then." Son Gohan changed into his Great Saiyaman outfit, rose into the air, and said goodbye to Videl.
Son Gohan didn't head straight home. Instead, he took a detour to Capsule Corp.
"I see. The World Martial Arts Tournament," Bulma said, a hint of nostalgia in her beautiful eyes. She turned to Son Gohan. "So you want to enter the tournament, and you came to me to figure out how to hide your identity?"
"Yes, Aunt Bulma," Son Gohan replied.
"No problem. I just need to make a few adjustments to your helmet," Bulma said with a light laugh. For a genius like her, this was no problem at all. Just then, Trunks and Vegeta came out of the training room.
"Hey, Trunks. Uncle Vegeta," Son Gohan greeted them with a smile.
"Gohan, what brings you here?" Trunks asked curiously.
Son Gohan explained everything to them. Vegeta gave a cold snort and ignored him. In his eyes, those Earthlings weren't even worth one punch. Son Gohan would be better off spending the time training. Vegeta could also tell that Son Gohan was nowhere near as strong as he'd been seven years ago. Compared to his seven-years-ago self, the current Gohan would get crushed, no question.
"The World Martial Arts Tournament? I want to enter, too," a familiar voice suddenly rang through the air.
"Goku."
"Dad."
"Kakarot."
Bulma, Son Gohan, and Vegeta recognized the voice. Bulma and Son Gohan were overjoyed, while Vegeta stared in surprise for a moment. "Kakarot, what? You're interested in that tournament?"
"Hehe, yeah," Goku's voice came again, this time with a cheerful laugh. "It's been a long time since I saw everyone. I've missed you all. Besides, I can come back to the living world for one day, so I might as well see everyone while I'm there."
"Dad, you really can come back?" Son Gohan asked, overjoyed.
"Of course."
"Heh heh. All right, Kakarot. If you're entering that tournament, then I'll enter, too," Vegeta said with a wicked grin.
"Then we'll see each other on the day of the tournament." After making plans with Goku, he fell silent.
"I'd better head home and tell Mom the news. See you all at the tournament." Son Gohan called out to them. An orange-yellow Flying Nimbus descended from the sky and carried him toward Paozu Mountain.
Trunks was left looking utterly confused. Who had that voice belonged to? And why had his father and Bulma reacted like that?
That night, at Paozu Mountain.
"What?!" A voice like a lioness's roar rang out across Paozu Mountain. The deafening sound startled numerous birds from their roosts.
"Gohan, is it true? Goku really is coming back?" Chi-Chi didn't seem to care that she'd just let out that terrifying roar. She grabbed Gohan excitedly, and Son Gohan nodded with an awkward smile.
Goku was coming back. There were only a few days left. Son Goten silently devoured the food on the table. The day Goku returned would be the day Majin Buu was unsealed. And then there was Broly, somewhere out there. Damn it, the anime hadn't said much about where Broly was. Otherwise, he could go kill Broly while he was still asleep.
As Son Goten thought this, Chi-Chi suddenly swept him up in her excitement. "Come to think of it, Goten hasn't met his dad yet. You must be looking forward to it!"
"?" Son Goten rolled his eyes. Come on, I'm a transmigrator. How could I not have seen Son Goku? I know him better than you do. Even if I didn't, I could figure out what he looked like just by looking in the mirror.
Still, Son Goten was looking forward to meeting Son Goku—his father in this life. After all, the anime had only let him see Goku through a screen. Wouldn't it be better to meet him face-to-face?
Thousands of miles away, in a glacier, the man frozen in the ice murmured unconsciously, "Ka... Ka... ro...t."
If Son Goten knew about it, he'd definitely have something to say. Holy crap, you love my dad so much, and so deeply, too. Why don't you just go eat shit?
