He can be clever and mischievous, proposing that he and Goten impersonate a masked adult contestant to enter the adult division. 14 However, his confidence is tempered by inexperience: he underestimates the drawbacks of Super Saiyan Third Grade and later lowers his guard when Pui Pui pretends to surrender. 11 22

Trunks is fiercely protective of those close to him. He restrains Goten from attacking Spopovich in anger, pursues Gohan's attackers, attacks Buu after Vegeta is kicked away, and recklessly charges Buu after his father is absorbed. 18 19 32 35

Dragon Ball Search and Broly Battle

Trunks leads the Dragon Ball hunt with Goten and Videl, using the Dragon Ball Radar to locate the final sphere. When Broly attacks Goten, Trunks transforms into a Super Saiyan and joins the battle, though Broly overwhelms both boys. 5 6

World Martial Arts Tournament

Trunks easily reaches the Junior Division final against Goten. Their Super Saiyan battle disrupts cameras and electronic equipment with the force of their clashes. 9 10 Trying to surprise Goten, Trunks uses Super Saiyan Third Grade, but its speed weakness leaves him unable to land a blow; he forfeits after Goten reveals Super Saiyan 2. 11

During the adult division, Trunks and Goten knock out a masked contestant and impersonate him as a two-person “Masked Fighter.” 14 15

Babidi's Spaceship

After Spopovich and Yamu drain Gohan's energy, Trunks follows Goten and Supreme Kai to track them. 18 19 He volunteers to fight Pui Pui in Babidi's spaceship, dominates him physically, then is caught off guard by a false surrender. The hit contributes energy toward Majin Buu's revival, prompting Vegeta to reprimand him. Trunks responds by killing Pui Pui with an energy wave. 22

Majin Buu Crisis

Trunks helps Goten attempt to save Fat Buu from Thin Buu, but arrives too late to stop Thin Buu from consuming him. 31 He attacks Super Buu when Vegeta is kicked away and later charges Buu alongside Gohan after Vegeta is absorbed, but Buu easily repels them. 32 35

Trunks opposes Goten's plan to become a Great Ape, partly regretting that his own tail was removed and that he therefore cannot help through the same transformation. 36 After Goten's transformation changes him into a grown youth, Trunks is distressed by the sudden height difference. 39
