Uncle Nine, Qiusheng, and Wencai were traditional Great Xia men. Aside from Qiusheng dressing a little more modernly, none of the three liked these foreign contraptions.
Yet among the four of them, Fei Luo was an exception.
He wore a simple Zhongshan suit and gleaming black leather shoes. Combined with his upright figure and cool demeanor, he looked every bit like a young master who had studied abroad.
The doorman at the entrance was visibly surprised when he saw the four of them.
The people who usually came here were all famous figures and wealthy gentry, along with quite a few foreigners.
No country bumpkins like this had ever come before, had they?
Of course, Fei Luo was the exception.
Someone as neatly dressed and refined as Fei Luo was a rare sight even for a doorman who had met countless people.
"What? What are you standing there for? Aren't we welcome?" Seeing the doorman staring blankly, Fei Luo stepped forward and spoke.
"No, no." The doorman snapped back to his senses and hurriedly opened the door. "This way, young master."
"Master, let's go." Fei Luo smiled faintly and led Uncle Nine, Qiusheng, and Wencai inside.
"May I ask if you gentlemen have a reservation?"
The four had just entered the main hall when a greasy middle-aged man in a bow tie approached them and spoke to Fei Luo, who appeared to be their leader.
He was the manager here. In his eyes, Fei Luo was undoubtedly some rich young master. He could not be wrong about that.
As for Uncle Nine and the other two, aside from Qiusheng being fairly handsome, they looked so rustic that they were probably servants.
"Master Ren invited us. He asked my master to come discuss some matters." Fei Luo immediately saw that the manager was looking down on them, so he turned slightly and answered with a smile.
"Hm?"
Master Ren?
The manager adjusted the black-framed glasses on his nose and immediately began bowing and scraping. "Please, right this way. Master Ren has reserved a private table. Sir, please follow me."
Seeing how the manager changed his attitude faster than he could fart, Uncle Nine glanced at Fei Luo with approval in his eyes.
He was growing more and more satisfied with this disciple.
A modest gentleman, courteous and well-mannered, capable in handling affairs—he would surely accomplish great things in the future!
Once this matter was settled and they returned, he would definitely pass that secret technique on to Fei Luo.
How could Uncle Nine not know that Fei Luo had spoken up for him? With a few casual words, he had not only resolved the awkwardness but also taught this manager a lesson.
Qiusheng and Wencai, however, had not thought that much about it.
The moment they entered, they were like country folk visiting a grand estate for the first time, constantly staring at the strange decor and the foreigners seated in twos and threes around the café.
"Qiusheng, Wencai, what are you standing around for?" Uncle Nine glanced at them unhappily.
Then he looked at Fei Luo, who carried himself with easy grace and calm composure. There was simply no comparison.
"Ah."
Qiusheng finally came back to his senses and hurriedly brought Wencai over to sit down.
"Hello. May I ask what you gentlemen would like to drink?" After seeing Fei Luo and the others take their seats, the greasy manager asked respectfully.
They were Master Ren's guests. Even if they were country bumpkins, he did not dare offend them.
"We'll wait until Master Ren arrives." Uncle Nine waved his hand and was about to dismiss the middle-aged manager when a lavishly dressed, broad and stout man with a small mustache came into view.
"Ah, Uncle Nine! I'm late. My apologies."
Before he even arrived, Master Ren spotted Uncle Nine sitting there and waved with a smile.
"Master Ren, it has been a long time. You seem more energetic than ever." Uncle Nine stood up and exchanged pleasantries.
Fei Luo stood as well, smiling as he gave Master Ren a slight nod.
This is an experience bundle. If your father doesn't turn into a zombie, how am I supposed to get my reward?
Qiusheng and Wencai also rose and greeted Master Ren.
The people of Great Xia had always valued etiquette. Whether meeting relatives or friends, they could hardly avoid exchanging a few polite words.
Master Ren had spent many years in business and was quite skilled at judging people.
His eyes lit up, and Fei Luo instantly drew his attention.
For a moment, he forgot to discuss business and instead asked curiously, "Uncle Nine, this young brother looks unfamiliar. I wonder..."
Uncle Nine smiled faintly. "This is my new disciple, Fei Luo. His abilities are no weaker than mine."
"Excellent, excellent! Young brother, you have an extraordinary bearing. I can tell that you'll accomplish great things in the future!" Master Ren looked at Fei Luo with undisguised admiration, as though appraising a prospective son-in-law.
That flattering praise made Fei Luo feel awkward. "Uncle Ren, you flatter me. I am untalented and only hope to inherit my master's teachings, so that I may one day rid the world of evil and uphold the righteous path."
"Good! What lofty ambition!" Master Ren slapped the table, startling Uncle Nine and the other two.
"Young brother, would you be interested in going into business someday? I—"
Seeing Master Ren about to get overly familiar with him again, Fei Luo shot Uncle Nine a pleading look.
What the hell is with Master Ren?
I'm not interested in old men! If your daughter were saying this to me, I might consider getting to know her more deeply.
"Ahem." Uncle Nine coughed awkwardly. "Master Ren, let's discuss the important matter first."
"Mhm."
Master Ren nodded, realizing that he had lost his composure.
Fei Luo's temperament was simply too distinctive, and Master Ren had taken quite a liking to his speech and manners. For a moment, he had forgotten the real matter at hand.
As the saying went, men should marry when grown and women should wed when grown. Ren Tingting was at just the right age, and over the past two years, Master Ren had consciously or unconsciously paid attention whenever he met promising young men. Yet he had never encountered one he liked as much as Fei Luo.
"Uncle Nine, come, let's have something to drink first. Look at me..." As he spoke, Master Ren looked toward the bewildered manager beside them. "Bring me a coffee, the usual."
"Uncle Nine, what tea would you like?" Master Ren turned to Uncle Nine and the others.
The question stumped Uncle Nine, and he instinctively looked at Fei Luo.
Qiusheng and Wencai did the same. Looking at the various unfamiliar names on the menu, they were at a loss as well.
They had never drunk foreign tea before.
At that moment, Fei Luo smiled at the greasy man. "Bring my master a coffee with less milk and less sugar. Give my two senior brothers coffee with more sugar and less milk. As for me, I'll have one without milk, only sugar."
Hearing Fei Luo's words, the greasy man quickly jotted it down. "Certainly. Please wait a moment."
Fei Luo had merely ordered based on what he remembered of his master's and two senior brothers' preferences, but this once again made the three secretly give him a thumbs-up.
"Father."
At that moment, a melodious voice, as sweet as an oriole leaving its nest, rang out.
Hearing that voice, Master Ren's face immediately filled with affection. Fei Luo and the others followed the sound with their eyes.
The newcomer was tall and slender, with an oval face and large eyes. She was slim yet pleasantly full-figured, dressed in a pink Western-style dress, wearing a veiled hat, and carrying a small handbag. She was as lovely as a lotus rising from the water.
Qiusheng and Wencai were instantly dumbstruck.
Even Fei Luo, who had grown accustomed in his previous life to the silicone-enhanced faces of internet celebrities, could not help but have his eyes light up.
What a Ren Tingting. She truly was breathtakingly beautiful.
