Background / History
Uncle Nine is a Maoshan Daoist based at Justice Manor and the master of Qiusheng, Wencai, and his third disciple, Fei Luo. After Fei Luo is injured during an encounter with an evil spirit at Old Man Wang’s home, Uncle Nine blames his own carelessness and personally examines the evil energy in his disciple’s body. He initially believes Fei Luo will need three to five years to return to the third level of Qi-Guiding. 1
Fei Luo’s overnight rise to the ninth level of Qi Refining and perfection of the Qi Guiding Art astonishes Uncle Nine. Realizing that Fei Luo was likely responsible for the prior night’s spiritual-energy storm, he sees him as the Maoshan Sect’s hope in the Age of Dharma Decline and begins holding him up as an example to Qiusheng and Wencai. 5
Recognizing Fei Luo’s potential, Uncle Nine gives him half of Master Ren’s payment for cultivation expenses and formally transmits the sect’s Supreme Clarity Great Cavern Scripture. He stresses that the orthodox inheritance must only be used to vanquish evil and uphold the righteous path. 7 8
During the Ren family’s reburial affair, Uncle Nine identifies Old Master Ren as an Iron Corpse and attempts to contain him with ritual tools. The corpse’s peak strength overwhelms his Corpse-Binding Rope, Peachwood Sword, Copper Coin Sword, and talismans; Fei Luo ultimately saves him. 11 14 Uncle Nine later accepts Fei Luo’s healing and cultivation pills, begins studying the Thirteen Demon-Subduing Styles, and entrusts Qiusheng’s ghost-possession case to Fei Luo while refining the pills himself. 17 18
After emerging from seclusion strengthened by a Marrow Cleansing Pill, Uncle Nine faces an assault on Justice Manor by ten zombies, including four peak Iron Corpses. He holds them off with a blood-anointed Guan Gong Blade until Fei Luo arrives, then accompanies Fei Luo in tracking the responsible Corpse Raising Valley cultivator. 29 30 31

- Prominent connected eyebrows. 1
- Sharp facial features and a square face. 1
- A righteous, awe-inspiring presence tempered by approachability. 1

Personality
Uncle Nine is caring, responsible, and deeply protective of his disciples. He regards Fei Luo’s injury as his own failure and later accepts Fei Luo’s gifts only after recognizing the sincerity behind them. 1 17 Even after Fei Luo surpasses him in cultivation, Uncle Nine remains proud rather than resentful, viewing his disciple’s talent as a blessing for Maoshan. 5 15
He is also strict about sect rules and righteous conduct. When transmitting Maoshan’s true inheritance, he explicitly warns Fei Luo not to harbor evil thoughts or enter the wrong path. He openly despises the Corpse Raising Valley for its murderous, evil cultivation practices. 8 31
Though experienced in Daoist matters, he is comparatively unfamiliar with Western-style cafés and modern social customs. He appreciates Fei Luo’s composure in such settings and frequently chastises Qiusheng and Wencai for their poor behavior or lack of diligence. 6 10
