Background / History

Master Ren is the father of Ren Tingting and son of Old Master Ren. Having spent many years in business, he is perceptive in judging people and takes an immediate liking to Fei Luo, whom he regards as a young man of exceptional bearing and potential. He invites Uncle Nine and his disciples to discuss his father’s reburial, providing a deposit for the work. 6 7

His family business has declined over the twenty years since his father’s burial. During the exhumation, Fei Luo identifies the grave as a Dragonfly Skimming Water site and concludes that the Feng Shui Master who arranged it likely bore the Ren family a grudge. 10 11

When Old Master Ren’s body is found to be turning into a zombie, Master Ren refuses Uncle Nine’s recommendation of immediate cremation because his father feared fire in life. He instead agrees to have the body temporarily kept at Justice Manor while a new burial site is sought. 11 12

Old Master Ren later escapes, attacks Ren Mansion, and becomes a direct threat to Master Ren and Ren Tingting. Master Ren panics at the sight of his undead father and relies on Uncle Nine and Fei Luo for protection. After Fei Luo destroys the Iron Corpse, Master Ren offers silver dollars in gratitude and insists that the Daoists remain at the mansion for the night. 13 15

Fei Luo later explains that Old Master Ren’s unusually rapid development into a peak Iron Corpse suggests deliberate interference by an unknown party. Alarmed, Master Ren asks Fei Luo and Uncle Nine to stay at Ren Mansion and protect his family. 18

After Fei Luo defeats A-Wei and later eliminates the evil cultivator behind the Ren family’s misfortunes, Master Ren repeatedly tries to repay him, including offering Ren Tingting’s hand in marriage. Fei Luo declines and advises him that the family should perform good deeds rather than seek further Feng Shui solutions. Master Ren accepts the advice, resolves to aid refugees, and agrees to distance himself from Huang Baiwan. 28 33

Personality

Master Ren is a shrewd and socially adept businessman who recognizes talent quickly. His esteem for Fei Luo grows from initial admiration to profound respect after witnessing his Daoist abilities and protection of the Ren family. 6 18 30

He is strongly traditional and filial. His refusal to cremate Old Master Ren—even after learning that the corpse is becoming a zombie—stems from respect for his late father’s fear of fire. 12

Master Ren is deeply protective of Ren Tingting and anxious for her safety during supernatural crises. He also supports her interest in Fei Luo and actively encourages her to pursue him. 28 33
