Hayato initially sought Fang Cheng’s advice because he wanted to win Asaka Akie’s favor. Taking Fang’s questionable encouragement seriously, he resolved to become a “hero-spirited man.” 13

When Watanabe Junko and her friends bullied Akie, Hayato stepped in despite being physically outmatched. Refusing to hit girls or risk the stigma of fighting them, he begged the bullies to target him instead and endured their beating until Fang Cheng intervened. He later vowed to investigate the incident himself. 45 46

Ultimate Bliss Cult incident

Hayato’s younger sister, Sato Mai, was abducted by the Ultimate Bliss Cult as a candidate Saintess. Desperate and blaming himself for not collecting her from school, he repeatedly sought Fang Cheng’s help. 92 95

Edo Reina murdered Hayato’s parents to eliminate future problems for the cult. His grief and rage triggered the awakening of his Psychokinesis, an unprecedentedly powerful natural-esper ability. 100 101

Takeda Masumi identified Hayato as a Psychokinetic genius and began testing and training him. He declined to reveal his ability to the government, even after being told that the Countermeasure Department could offer greater resources and professional instruction. 129 135

Following rapid growth under Kanzaki Rin’s supervision, Hayato was made a Countermeasure Department intern and sent on missions. His early field work exposed his inexperience: he was nearly trapped by the Charm-Spotted Spider after being distracted by her seduction. 140 302

Machine City infiltration

Fang Cheng offered Hayato a choice between protected training and a dangerous mission in Machine City. Hayato chose the latter, accepting the assignment to gather intelligence on the city’s factions, military strength, and hidden weapons. 423

During his journey, he met Kujo Yuri and traveled with her to Machine City. There, he grew into a capable operative, breaking into the City Guard Department, extracting Fumoto Sho, interrogating Komori Hiroshi, and discovering the N5 weapon of mass destruction. 426 445 448

Hayato later infiltrated the N5 launch base and dismantled the weapon before it could be used against the Resistance Organization and cyborg forces. 451

After Machine City’s crisis, Hayato continued assisting with evacuations and maintaining public order alongside Yuri. 576
