Background

Yu Xiaogang is the son of Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan head Yu Yuanzhen and Yu Tianlong’s cousin. At the clan’s Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony, he awakens Luo Sanpao with only half a level of innate soul power, becoming an object of ridicule and falling into despair. 1 3

The clan grants him only one hundred Gold Soul Coins per month, no additional resource access, and no Mimicry Training Ground eligibility. Seeing Yu Tianlong receive privileged treatment despite also possessing Luo Sanpao, Xiaogang publicly accuses the clan of favoritism and calls the investment in Tianlong a waste. 4

Initially, Xiaogang insists that Luo Sanpao should follow a defensive or control-oriented cultivation route, based on its frailty and paralytic gas. His own Luo Sanpao is timid, pale gold, and markedly inferior in presence to Tianlong’s twin Luo Sanpaos. 6

After researching martial soul advancement in the family library, Xiaogang discovers that Luo Sanpao can grow by consuming spirit beast meat. Yu Yuanzhen then reveals his plan: cultivate Yu Tianlong’s Luo Sanpao into powerful prey, then have Xiaogang devour it. Although Xiaogang hesitates over betraying his cousin, jealousy and desire for strength lead him to accept the scheme. 15 16

During the attempted theft, Xiaogang’s Luo Sanpao fails to devour Little Gold because of the disparity in their bloodlines. It nevertheless bites Little Gold and gains a trace of its bloodline, beginning its later evolution. Xiaogang flees with Yu Yuanzhen after the scheme collapses. 25 27 31

Over the following five years, he consumes soul beasts, spirit rings, and bloodlines under Yu Yuanzhen’s support. This transforms his Luo Sanpao into a Golden Dragon and elevates him from the clan’s mocked “waste” into its celebrated successor. 38 39 43

After five years of cultivation, Yu Xiaogang grows into a tall, sturdy youth whose appearance and aura reflect the blood energy accumulated through devouring spirit beasts. 43

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is deeply insecure about his weak awakening and highly sensitive to public humiliation. His resentment toward Yu Tianlong grows from perceived unfairness in resources and recognition into an obsessive conviction that Tianlong’s power should belong to him. 4 9 24

He is capable of research, persistence, and outward humility when seeking knowledge, as shown when he studies ancient texts and later asks Tianlong for instruction on raising Luo Sanpao. However, this apparent change conceals continuing greed for Tianlong’s martial souls. 15 20

After gaining power, Xiaogang becomes arrogant and revels in admiration. Long-term devouring worsens his temperament, leaving him irritable, bloodthirsty, and at times tempted to attack human spirit masters for their soul power. 43 46 49

Following his regression, his ambition becomes openly manic: he declares that he will sacrifice anything to regain power and surpass Yu Tianlong. 59
