Background / History

Yu Yuanzhen presided over the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony, where he recognized Yu Tianlong's innate full soul power despite the unusual twin Luo Sanpao Martial Souls. He urged Tianlong not to be discouraged by the appearance of his Martial Souls and initially presented himself as a supportive elder. 1

As clan head, Yu Yuanzhen established that resources were allocated according to Martial Soul quality, innate soul power, and bloodline closeness. He gave his son, Yu Xiaogang, the lowest allowance because of his half-level innate soul power, while granting Yu Tianlong core-disciple treatment and extensive resources. 4

He personally accompanied Tianlong and Xiaogang into the Star Dou Great Forest. After Tianlong successfully absorbed a thousand-year Dark Gold Dreadclaw Bear ring as his first ring and obtained the Golden Dragon Claw skill, Yu Yuanzhen celebrated him as the clan's hope and substantially expanded his resources. 6 8 14

Behind this support, Yu Yuanzhen developed a plan to use Tianlong's twin Luo Sanpao to elevate Xiaogang. Upon learning that Xiaogang's Luo Sanpao could devour and evolve, he instructed his son to cultivate until he could devour Tianlong's Martial Souls, dismissing kinship and morality as concerns of the weak. 15 16

Yu Yuanzhen continued supplying Tianlong with exceptional resources to lower his guard, then brought both cousins to the Star Dou Forest under the pretext of obtaining their spirit rings. He pressured Tianlong into absorbing the Space Rabbit's ring, intending for Xiaogang to devour Tianlong's Luo Sanpao afterward. Tianlong instead used Little Silver's newly acquired spatial ability to escape into the forest's Core Area. 22 23 24 26

Unable to pursue safely into the Core Area, Yu Yuanzhen withdrew when an overwhelming aura emerged. He subsequently portrayed Tianlong to the clan as a cultivation deviant who had attempted to devour his own kin and fled after being wounded. 26 27 29 31

Five years later, Yu Yuanzhen promoted Xiaogang as the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's “True Dragon” and successor, proud of his rise to Spirit King. Following Xiaogang's defeat and regression, Yu Yuanzhen dismissed the tournament, attacked Tianlong personally, and fought at full strength as a level 93 Title Douluo. Qian Xunji's intervention stopped the battle; Yu Yuanzhen then unsuccessfully offered Tianlong the position of Young Clan Master to prevent him from joining Spirit Hall. 55 56 57

After Tianlong departed as Spirit Hall's Holy Son, Yu Yuanzhen was confronted by his own elders and responded to opposition by killing a clan member who questioned him. He nevertheless agreed to help Xiaogang seek stronger soul beasts and bloodlines to restore his power. 58 59

Yu Yuanzhen appears to be in his forties despite being close to fifty. He resembles Yu Xiaogang in facial features, but with a more resolute and imposing bearing. 4

When his schemes are exposed or his authority is challenged, Yu Yuanzhen becomes violent, prideful, and increasingly reckless.
