Nature and Function

Soul Rings are power-bearing rings typically left behind after a Soul Beast is killed. Soul Masters absorb them to advance through cultivation bottlenecks and gain Soul Skills. The ring’s age determines both its color and the difficulty of absorption. 19 121

A red tint does not necessarily indicate a fully Hundred-Thousand-Year ring. The 90,000-year Ice and Fire Demon Wolf King produced a black-and-red ring, while Dugu Yan’s sixth ring condensed as deep black with a faint red edge. 46 198

Exceptional Cases

Ye Qing’s First Ring

Ye Qing absorbed a 1,500-year-old Ash Fire Fragrant Flower Soul Ring as his first ring, more than three times the accepted 423-year limit. His physique had been strengthened by several immortal herbs, while Chaos Green Flame suppressed the ring’s violent energy. 19

• Dugu Bo hailed the successful absorption as the first documented instance of a Soul Master beginning with a Thousand-Year Soul Ring. Ten-Level Dual Ring

Ye Qing’s Chaos Green Lotus possesses Ten-Level Dual Ring, allowing it to absorb two Soul Rings at each ten-level threshold rather than the usual one. 20

• The talent allows for a theoretical maximum of eighteen rings at level 90. 20 130
• Ye Qing’s Soul Power progression does not follow normal ring-count expectations; he possessed nine rings while his Soul Power was around level 60. 130

Ring Compatibility and Autonomy

The Chaos Green Lotus rejects rings whose attributes do not suit it; only compatible rings resonate with the Martial Soul and can be absorbed. This forced Dugu Bo to search widely for suitable Soul Beasts. 21

The Martial Soul also demonstrates unprecedented autonomy:

• The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger’s ring forcibly chose Ye Qing as its master despite his reluctance to absorb it immediately. 110
• The dying Nine-Colored Deer’s ring likewise flew to Ye Qing of its own accord. 110
• The two rings fused into Ye Qing’s eighth, a single Hundred-Thousand-Year blood-red Soul Ring. 111
• After absorbing a Hundred-Thousand-Year Iceberg Snow Lotus, the Chaos Green Lotus directly gestated a pure Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring without the usual resentment associated with a slain Soul Beast. 119 121

The Iceberg Snow Lotus was a medicinal herb rather than a Soul Beast. Its conversion into a ring therefore differed from ordinary hunting or sacrifice, with the resulting ring consisting of pure ice, snow, and heaven-and-earth source energy. 119

When considering the Thunderclap Beast’s pure ultimate-lightning ring, Ye Qing questioned whether his Martial Soul was truly limited to the ice and fire attributes that dominated his earlier rings. He reasoned that chaos encompassed and generated all things, including lightning, and began absorbing the ring under Snow Empress and Ice Empress’s protection. Successful absorption and the resulting skills were not yet established at that point. 225

Sacrifice and Soul Spirit Preservation

A Soul Beast can voluntarily sacrifice its cultivation to form a Soul Ring. Ye Qing developed a method of preserving the sacrificing beast’s complete soul and spiritual essence, allowing it to remain linked to the recipient’s ring rather than simply perish. He named the Green Flood Dragon’s resulting state a Soul Spirit Prototype. 198 199

• Green Flood Dragon: After becoming Dugu Yan’s sixth ring, it emerged from the ring as a living miniature creature. Snow Empress and Ice Empress recognized its new symbiotic relationship with Dugu Yan. 198
• Three-River Sky-Piercing Python: Ye Qing used the Heavenly God Pearl’s Nine-Colored Divine Radiance to extract and preserve its intact soul during sacrifice. Its power became Dugu Yan’s Hundred-Thousand-Year seventh ring, while the Python appeared above the ring in miniature spirit form. 217

Life-Bound Soul Ring

The Blue Silver King sacrificed all his life and cultivation to form an 85,000-year Life-Bound Soul Ring for Tang San. This black fifth ring had absolute, one-hundred-percent compatibility with the Blue Silver Emperor Martial Soul. The sacrifice accompanied Tang San’s Martial Soul evolution, his advancement to level 57, and the awakening of the Blue Silver Domain. 230

Ring Fusion

Huo Wu possesses an innate talent called Ring Fusion, which releases and concentrates the Soul Power of multiple rings into a single attack. Against Dugu Yan, she simultaneously activated her three rings—yellow, yellow, and purple—to produce an intensely condensed, nearly white fire pillar. This exceeded the ordinary output of her third Soul Skill but failed to break Dugu Yan’s fourth Soul Skill, Green Phosphorus Flood Dragon Armor. 51 52

This technique combines the rings’ output during combat; it is distinct from the permanent fusion of two separate rings that created Ye Qing’s eighth ring. 51 111

During his early strength assessment, it forced Dugu Bo to abandon his suppressed Soul Power and use the Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor Martial Soul Avatar to contain the attack.
