Background / History

Cell arrived from the future during the Android era and concealed his energy so thoroughly that conventional ki sensing could not locate him. His attacks had already resulted in the disappearance of entire city populations and hundreds of thousands of victims before he revealed himself. 8 10

His intended evolution route was to absorb Androids 17 and 18, but Wang Shen’s protection of them made an approach too dangerous. Cell instead returned to Dr. Gero’s earliest laboratory in the northern glaciers, where he found Androids 13, 14, and 15 being charged. He absorbed all three without awakening them, becoming Perfect Cell. 13

After achieving Perfect Form, Cell overwhelmed Piccolo and Tien Shinhan, leaving Tien incapacitated and forcing Piccolo to send him for help. He later killed Piccolo and nearly destroyed Android 16 before Wang Shen intervened. 14 15 16

Cell confronted Wang Shen while still pursuing Androids 17 and 18. When Wang Shen restrained him by the tail, Cell severed the tail himself to escape, only for it to regenerate later. 16 17

During their battle, Cell used a city full of civilians as a potential energy source, intending to replenish himself through absorption. Wang Shen cut him in half with a Golden Ki Sword, but Cell regenerated his lower body at considerable energy cost. 17 18

Desperate to survive, Cell attempted to provoke Wang Shen into allowing him to grow stronger. Wang Shen instead transformed into Super Saiyan 2, pursued the fleeing Cell over the ocean, and killed him with a Light Sword. Trunks then reduced Cell’s remains to ash. 18

Appearance

In Perfect Form, Cell has a tall, powerful humanoid body with green skin, narrow vertical pupils, a regenerating tail, and wing-like organs on his back. 13 15 17

He is calculating and ruthless: he avoided Androids 17 and 18 while Wang Shen protected them, sought an alternative evolution method, and deliberately led Wang Shen’s battle into a populated city to absorb civilians. 13 17

When faced with overwhelming power, Cell’s confidence gives way to fear and desperation. He attempts manipulation, flees from Wang Shen’s Super Saiyan 2 transformation, and ultimately begs for his life. 18
