Tianlu's first major breakthrough comes when he discovers a hidden realm on Kunlun Mountain protected by a Xiantian Array, within which he finds the Twenty-Four Petal Creation Green Lotus—a supreme treasure formed from a seed of the Thirty-Six Petal Chaos Green Lotus that once nurtured Pangu, containing the fundamental Great Dao of Creation 3. His seizure of this lotus defies its destined fate and draws the immediate hostility of the Heavenly Dao, which sends Purple Heaven Divine Lightning against him, only for the lightning to veer away harmlessly due to Tianlu's status as a darling of the Great Dao 5 6. His insatiable greed and immense power soon become legendary: he plunders the Kunlun Sacred Realm, easily subdues the Kaiming Beast Lu Wu—a mid-stage Primordial Unity Golden Immortal—and proceeds to ravage the mountains of Mount Buzhou, devouring spiritual roots, mineral ores, and topsoil with such thoroughness that wherever he passes becomes barren and desolate 9 22. His rampage attracts the attention of Nuwa and Fuxi on Fengqi Mountain, who decide to meet the Pixiu causing such a stir, and it also prompts the Heavenly Dao to offer him a fortuitous opportunity to lure him away from further destruction 22 28.

In the later Primordial era, Tianlu establishes Chaos Immortal Island by merging the three overseas islands of Penglai, Yingzhou, and Fangzhang 69. His authority over worldly fortune grows to the point that the future of the Witch and Demon Races depends upon his consent to gather their Laws of Fortune 59 87 94. Hongjun publicly recognizes him as a Pet of the Great Dao protected by the Heavenly Dao, explaining why even the Three Pure Ones and the Golden Crow brothers avoid directly contesting Tianlu's possessions 70 82. Tianlu's advancement through the Three Flowers method also allows him to create three autonomous Pixiu incarnations, making his cultivation increasingly independent of conventional seclusion 85 107 119. His later attainment of the Hunyuan Daluo Golden Immortal realm allows him to protect disciples with marks carrying the force of his own strike 182.
