Background / History

Minato sought to help Kakashi Hatake recover from Hatake Sakumo's suicide by introducing him to Uchiha Mirai and asking Mirai to help Kakashi open up. Mirai agreed, though reluctantly. 22

During the Third Shinobi World War, Minato held command responsibilities at the Leaf's front-line headquarters. He recognized Mirai's exceptional potential and began daily sparring sessions with him; these matches revealed Minato as a Kage-level shinobi whose speed and strength could challenge Mirai's rapid growth. 23 Mirai later obtained Minato's accumulated Flying Thunder God Technique knowledge through the Plunder System, including the technique's cultivation method and Minato's long-developed insights. 24

Minato continued helping Mirai refine his combat fundamentals, including reaction speed. Their training enabled Mirai to plunder Minato's “Limit Reaction Nerves,” an ability tied to extreme reactions. 40 As overall battlefield commander against Sunagakure, Minato accepted Mirai's proposal for a general offensive after learning that Mirai had killed Rasa. 58 During the decisive assault, Minato stalled Chiyo and her puppets so she could not disrupt Mirai's attack. 60

Mirai's power eventually surpassed the level Minato had expected. After witnessing Mirai's Susanoo withstand Hiruzen Sarutobi's attacks, Minato felt that his and Kushina's dream of becoming Hokage might remain unattainable. 109 Nevertheless, he remained one of Mirai's trusted confidants, discussing Mirai's Mangekyo Sharingan and its apparent ability to copy Kekkei Genkai. 61

When Kushina's Nine-Tails chakra became unstable near childbirth, Minato immediately prepared a sealing technique to reinforce her seal, fearing for both Kushina and their unborn child. 116 He was later reunited with Kushina after Mirai protected her from the masked Obito Uchiha's attempt to extract the Nine-Tails. 121

Minato is usually calm and analytical, but Mirai's extraordinary growth repeatedly shocks him—particularly Mirai's killing of Rasa and the revelation of the Mangekyo Sharingan. 58 61 He is practical in command, readily supporting a decisive offensive when it can secure victory for the Leaf. 58

He is deeply protective of Kushina and their child, becoming visibly anxious when Kushina's seal destabilizes before childbirth. 116 As Hokage, he is exceptionally diligent and genuinely enjoys the work, though his frequent visits home draw complaints from his family. 220

Flying Thunder God Technique

Minato is one of the only shinobi identified as having proficiently mastered the Flying Thunder God Technique, alongside its creator Tobirama Senju. His accumulated knowledge of the technique is extensive enough to provide another shinobi with both its cultivation method and deeper Space-Time Ninjutsu insights. 24
