Background

The Sharingan is the Uchiha Clan’s hereditary dōjutsu. Its evolution is tied to Mental Power: Mirai explains that sufficient Mental Power can continuously advance the eye, while intense emotional trauma—especially losing a cherished person—can force a Three-Tomoe Sharingan into the Mangekyō state. 20 83

The Uchiha are descendants of Indra, elder son of Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki. Indra inherited the Sage’s Eyes and awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan after Black Zetsu manipulated him into killing his own followers. The conflict between Indra and his brother Asura became the origin of the Uchiha–Senju feud. 254

Although Mangekyō Sharingan is considered the final form of the Uchiha bloodline limit, it can evolve into the Rinnegan when its wielder obtains the complete Power of All Creation. Mirai identifies this as requiring the ultimate Yin Release and Yang Release rather than merely possessing Mangekyō eyes or Hashirama Cells. 144 251

Appearance

When activated, the Three-Tomoe Sharingan turns the user’s irises scarlet and manifests three black tomoe that rotate around the pupil. 22

The Three-Tomoe Sharingan allows its wielder to perceive and reproduce techniques with exceptional accuracy. Mirai attributes his knowledge of Kakashi Hatake’s ninjutsu to this ability, stating that no ninjutsu holds secrets before the Sharingan. 22
