Appearance

Hei Zi was obese, with most of the hair on his face and head fallen out. He was often carried on a mat by followers and waited on by young female ape-men. 30

Personality

Hei Zi was intelligent, calculating, and intensely self-serving. Selected for his language ability and logical thinking, he instead used his status as a returned survivor to exploit other ape-men, presenting himself as someone favored by a hidden Heavenly God. 28

He was willing to sacrifice followers for his own safety, ordering believers to charge armed robots while secretly escaping through a side route. When his influence declined, his resentment toward Shu Zi turned into attempted murder. 30 31

His ambition depended on material comfort and surplus resources. Huang Si judged that Hei Zi's methods—class exploitation, divine-right claims, and religious intimidation—were unsustainable in the primitive society outside the Earth Realm. 38

Return to the Earth Realm

Hei Zi was originally sent to an outside ape-man tribe as an intended enlightener. Rather than changing that tribe, he endured a dangerous journey back to the Earth Realm Base, driven by the prospect of food and safety. Huang Si saved him when he collapsed near the base. 28

After recovering, Hei Zi used his rescue and prior farewell ceremony to claim divine favor. He built a following through demands for food and service, helping split the ape-men into factions centered on himself, Shu Zi, or neutrality. 28

Escape from the Earth Realm Base

During the planned escape, Hei Zi promised his followers survival but privately intended to sacrifice them if necessary. He ordered believers to attack armed robots, then fled through a side route while others died. 30

His escape briefly reinforced his followers' belief that he was protected by God. However, the wider tribe credited Shu Zi and the three Ancestral Deities for their rescue, leaving Hei Zi isolated with only a small group of supporters. 30 31

Murder of Xiao Hua

Seeking to remove Shu Zi, Hei Zi used a stolen gun to fire on him. Xiao Hua saw the shot and shielded Shu Zi, suffering the fatal wound instead. 31

Captured by the enraged tribe, Hei Zi took an elder hostage and escaped. Huang Si later found him injured and injected him with Life Support Serum, telling him that he would live until he was “nailed to the pillar of shame in history.” 31 34

Rule and Death

Four months later, Hei Zi reached the external ape-man tribe he had once abandoned. He used stolen technological items to establish himself as its leader, but human scouts found him and Shu Zi led an attack on the settlement. 38

Shu Zi shot Hei Zi repeatedly with the God Bow. Hei Zi fell from a cliff and died of his injuries. Huang Si observed his final moments, concluded that Hei Zi had been born into an era unable to support his ambitions, and allowed his soul to dissipate rather than assimilating it. 38
