Background

Aoike was born with both Hyuga and Uchiha blood, but belonged to neither clan fully. As a Hyuga Branch House member, he bore the Caged Bird Seal; his mixed heritage also made him unwelcome among the Hyuga and prevented him from inheriting a family surname. His mother, Hyuga Shirahana, died protecting Hinata, leaving him with only a pension and a deep resentment toward the Hyuga system 1.

At age six, Hyuga Hiashi assigned Aoike to replace his mother as Hinata's guard and sparring partner. Although he publicly performed the role of a loyal Branch House protector, he privately resolved to destroy the Caged Bird Seal and the system behind it 1.

Aoike excelled at the Ninja Academy, repeatedly defeating Sasuke and developing techniques beyond normal student level. He later became Sasuke's taijutsu coach after learning that his father, Uchiha Jo, was Uchiha Mikoto's brother 2 4 5.

After graduating early, Aoike joined Root. Danzo believed he had turned Aoike into a weapon, but Aoike treated Root as a means to gain experience and vent his anger. He defected at age ten, leaving only a Shadow Clone behind in Konoha 8 9.

His mother's death, clan discrimination, and the Caged Bird Seal left him detached from most people. He regards many classmates as acquaintances rather than genuine bonds, though Hinata remains his closest emotional connection 8.
