Background

Ulquiorra was summoned by Aizen in Holy Soul Village through the Soul Reaper Summoning System. Although Aizen expected the Fourth Espada from his memories, the summon arrived as a six-year-old child with none of Ulquiorra's past-life memories, no Zanpakuto, mask, or Hollow Hole. The system classified him as a human who could transform into a Hollow. He immediately recognized Aizen as “Lord Aizen” and accepted the nickname “Little U.” 1

At the Martial Soul Awakening Ceremony, Ulquiorra awakened the Black Winged Great Demon beast Martial Soul and Innate Full Soul Power. Su Yuntao considered its pressure comparable to—or greater than—the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan's Martial Souls. 2

His growth differed from ordinary Soul Masters: he gained his first and second soul rings without hunting Soul Beasts. By Rank 70, with assistance from Aizen and Urahara Kisuke, he had become a Soul Reaper-transformed Hollow, acquiring traits such as a Hollow Hole and Spirit Pressure. 4 12 134

Appearance

Ulquiorra was initially summoned as a pale, slender child with short, messy black hair and green eyes. He wore a white, black-lined high-collared coat, white hakama trousers, and a broad black belt. 1

Personality

Ulquiorra is consistently cold, expressionless, and unwaveringly loyal to Aizen. He obeys commands without argument, treats Aizen's judgment as final, and formally reports when a mission is complete. Even as a child, he accepted being called “Little U” without objection and tried to repair the chair he accidentally destroyed rather than inconvenience Aizen. 1 4 66

He views strength as the decisive measure of worth. He is ruthless toward challengers, dismisses weaker enemies as useless, and considers weakness a sin. During his Hollow evolution, he explicitly identifies himself as heartless, arguing that this frees him from human envy, arrogance, rage, and susceptibility to illusions. 65 144 146

Despite this detachment, Ulquiorra can be analytical in battle. After losing to Fabia Academy's trap-based strategy, he immediately identified several of the opponent's relevant soul skills. Later, Hitsugaya notes that Ulquiorra has gained emotions, though his speech remains severe and blunt. 93 271

Black Winged Great Demon

Ulquiorra's beast Martial Soul is an exceptionally powerful Black Winged Great Demon. Its release enhances his physical abilities and gives him wings, claws, a horned helmet, and aerial combat capability. 2 4
