Background & History

Aizen was reincarnated in Holy Soul Village after a previous life in the world of Soul Reapers. In that life, he exposed Aizen Sousuke's conspiracy, worked with Ichimaru Gin against him, seized the Hogyoku, and was ultimately killed by Aizen Sousuke. The Hogyoku remained inside him and brought him to the Douluo world. 1

At age six, Aizen received the Role-Playing System and summoned Ulquiorra as its first summon. He later awakened Kyoka Suigetsu, developed Hado Talent, and discovered that absorbing released human souls could rapidly increase his Soul Power. 1 3 4

While studying at Notting Junior Soul Master Academy, Aizen rejected Yu Xiaogang's instruction, entered Dormitory Seven, and established himself as the students' strongest fighter. He personally trained Xiao Wu and offered occasional instruction to the other work-study students; Tang San made surpassing him a personal goal. 4 6

Aizen expanded the Role-Playing System through Soul Coins, gaining character templates and Zanpakuto associated with numerous Soul Reapers. He built Central Spirit Arts Academy into a force capable of competing in the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament. 18 79 95

His greatest internal threat was Aizen Sousuke, a summoned counterpart whose schemes gradually turned Tosen Kaname, several Espada, and Spirit Hall's resources against him. Aizen's attempts to counter these plans culminated in an apparent death at Tosen's hands after he defeated Blue Armor Titled Douluo. 101 103 137

Aizen later returned with the King's Seal and learned that Aizen Sousuke had destroyed much of Spirit City to establish Hueco Mundo. After entering Hueco Mundo, Aizen lost access to his Zanpakuto abilities and withdrew to rebuild his fundamentals rather than confront Aizen Sousuke while weakened. 121 141

During his Sea God Island campaign, Aizen slaughtered Sea Soul Masters to accelerate his Spirit Pressure conversion. He later learned that the King's Seal had manipulated this path, using the Sea God's inheritance to position him as a Soul King candidate. 152 171

The Zero Squad subsequently reforged Aizen's Zanpakuto into a King Sword, revealing that his original blade carried the karma of his three lifetimes. 172

Personality

Aizen usually presents himself as calm, gentle, and encouraging. He can inspire others—particularly Tang San and Xiao Wu—while carefully concealing his real thoughts. Ulquiorra recognizes that Aizen's apparent kindness toward Tang San is, at least initially, the interest of someone who has found “an interesting toy.” 3

He is highly pragmatic and can be ruthless toward those he judges weak or useless. He killed low-potential summons, absorbed souls to advance, and later carried out a massacre on Sea God Island to pursue godhood. 10 12 152

Despite this ruthlessness, Aizen is wary of betrayal and values capable allies. He relies on Urahara Kisuke's intelligence, gives important commands to the Gotei 13, and continually seeks greater strength so that neither allies nor enemies can exploit a weakness. 56 91 125
