A year before joining the Chat Group, Kakashi retired from the Anbu and was reassigned by the Lord Third as a jonin instructor. No Ninja Academy graduate passed his assessment during that year, so Team Kakashi had not yet been formed. 15

While mourning a deceased friend at the Memorial Stone, Kakashi received an invitation to the Spend the Rest of Life Chat Group. Believing it to be a powerful genjutsu, he disrupted his own chakra and spent five days attempting to dispel it before accepting.
