Background / History

The Star Luo Empire was one of the two great empires of Douluo Continent. Unlike Heaven Dou, its brutal succession system was said to produce emperors who were ambitious, talented, and ruthless. Its military strength was reinforced by the close intermarriage of the imperial Dai Clan and the Zhu Clan, whose members could wield Martial Soul Fusion Skills together. 23

The Dai and Zhu Clans were so politically and militarily intertwined that Zhu Clan head Zhu Lingtian, though nominally a duke, effectively served as an executive deputy to the emperor. Dai Feng dispatched Zhu Lingtian and his younger sister, Dai Yu, to assassinate Spirit Hall's young prodigies Tai Yi and Qian Renxue after learning that they had left Spirit City. Star Luo was the first faction to take action against the pair, viewing them as threats to its ambitions of continental unification. 23

Dai Feng later granted Martial Soul Hall full administration of a province bordering Martial Soul City. Together with a province ceded by Heaven Dou, this territory became Spirit Province. The loss of territory worsened Star Luo’s already hostile relationship with Martial Soul Hall. 53 54

As Tai Yi prepared to become Spirit Hall's Pope, Dai Feng recognized that the empire could no longer confront Spirit Hall alone. He therefore sought cooperation with the Heaven Dou Empire despite the two states’ historic rivalry. 112 113

Government and Military

• Emperor Dai Feng — Ruled the empire during its conflict with Spirit Hall. Following the destruction of most of Star Luo’s military leadership, he adopted an evil cultivation method in an attempt to preserve the state. He later advanced to Rank 99 as a Peerless Douluo, but was killed by Qian Daoliu at the Battle of Dragonrise City. 142 144 167 172
• Empress Zhu Lingxin — Dai Feng’s consort and a member of the Zhu Clan; cultivated the forbidden art alongside him and reached Rank 97. She was killed by Golden Crocodile Douluo after attacking Tai Yi in grief over Dai Weisi’s death. 144 156 172
• Crown Prince Dai Weisi — Initially rejected the evil art, but later became involved in the empire’s descent into Evil Soul Master cultivation and rose from Rank 48 to Rank 76 by devouring captives. Conflict with Spirit Hall

Alliance with Heaven Dou

Facing Tai Yi’s rise as Spirit Hall’s new Pope, Star Luo proposed an alliance with its traditional rival, the Heaven Dou Empire. The two empires agreed to seal routes around Spirit Province and mass their armies for war. 113

Star Luo demanded that Heaven Dou fund seventy percent of the alliance’s military expenses, citing Star Luo’s stronger military and its stationed Titled Douluo. Heaven Dou accepted the unequal arrangement. 113

The alliance was compromised from the beginning: Guang Tian, the disguised Heaven Dou emperor and a Spirit Hall agent, secretly supplied Tai Yi with the deployment maps and exact locations of both empires’ forces. 114 127 130

Defeat around Spirit Province

The two empires committed eighty percent of their military strength to the encirclement of Spirit Province. Spirit Hall targeted their command headquarters rather than their roadblocks. 130 131

On the Star Luo front, Qian Daoliu and the Worship Hall elders annihilated the empire’s command structure. Eighty percent of Star Luo’s military commanders were killed, more than half its soldiers surrendered to Spirit Hall, and only twenty percent of its army remained capable of combat. 142

Unlike the Heaven Dou forces, which had already been infiltrated by Evil Soul Masters, Qian Daoliu detected no Evil Soul Master auras among the Star Luo troops deployed around Spirit Province. Star Luo’s widespread corruption began only after this catastrophic defeat, when Dai Feng accepted Blood One’s forbidden technique. 141 142

Descent into Evil Soul Master Rule

Adoption of the Forbidden Art

With the Spirit Hall Empire preparing to annex Star Luo, Blood One offered Dai Feng an evil technique that could rapidly elevate Soul Power through human blood. Dai Feng initially resisted because it required sacrificing his own subjects, but ultimately accepted the method and ordered children with Soul Power captured for testing. 142 143 144

Blood One acted on behalf of Bibi Dong, who distributed the technique to Spirit Hall’s enemies both to weaken Spirit Hall and to fuel the slaughter connected to her Divine Position. Dai Feng did not know his benefactor’s true identity and believed Blood One served a powerful Evil Soul Master with a shared hatred of Spirit Hall. 144

Dai Feng and Zhu Lingxin used the technique, then spread it among trusted ministers. Those ministers were sent across the empire to cultivate themselves and raise Evil Soul Master armies, with criminals, villages, and slums designated as sources of “blood food.” 146

Although Dai Feng originally intended to keep Dai Weisi untainted so that the imperial line would retain legitimacy, the crown prince eventually embraced the technique himself. Dai Feng and Zhu Lingxin’s own cultivation raised them to Rank 97 within roughly a month, while Dai Feng eventually reached Rank 99. 145 147 156 167

Breakdown of Order

The empire’s attempt to control the forbidden art failed. Ministers’ descendants circulated it among the nobility, while mass disappearances began in villages, slums, and eventually the Star Luo Royal Soul Master Academy. 149 150

As cultivation spread, royal relatives, ministers, soldiers, and local officials became Evil Soul Masters. Provincial forces began abducting civilians and Soul Masters openly, while some soldiers deserted to form independent factions. 156 160 161 167

• Star Luo City’s residents became afraid to go out at night due to abductions. 160
• Border provinces and major towns were reduced to places where civilians were treated as cultivation resources. 161

Spirit Hall Intervention

Tai Yi infiltrated Star Luo territory to investigate the source of the forbidden art and Bibi Dong’s broader objective. He found provinces, towns, Soul Master academies, and clans devastated by ministers and soldiers who treated civilians as blood food. 161

After defeating and capturing Blood One, Tai Yi and his companions began purging visible Evil Soul Masters during their return journey. In one town near Star Luo City, Tai Yi killed more than a thousand Evil Soul Master soldiers while Ice Empress killed the minister governing the area, who had advanced to Titled Douluo through the forbidden art. 164

Tai Yi then offered rescued civilians safe passage to Spirit Province if they could prove they were not Evil Soul Masters. The resulting refugee movement deprived the empire’s rogue cultivators of victims, weakened Star Luo’s remaining social base, and increased popular support for Spirit Hall intervention. 164 167

Battle of Dragonrise City

Dai Feng gathered Star Luo’s remaining forces at Dragonrise City, the birthplace of the empire’s founding emperor, intending to fight the Spirit Hall Empire to the death there. The city was nearly abandoned after repeated depredations by Evil Soul Masters. 169

Despite its numerical advantage, Star Luo’s Evil Soul Master army was disorganized and outmatched. The 800-member Angel Legion held back nearly 10,000 Evil Soul Masters through formations, discipline, and the natural suppression of evil exerted by Angel Martial Souls. Spirit Hall’s remaining organized squads and allied sect forces defeated the rest, reducing Star Luo’s numbers from roughly twenty thousand to fewer than five thousand. 171

Tai Yi opened the battle with Soul Vibration to disrupt the Evil Soul Master army, Golden Crow Sun-Piercing Divine Light to eliminate incapacitated soldiers, and Myriad Life Bell Chime to heal and protect Spirit Hall’s forces. 170

Dai Feng and Zhu Lingxin used their Martial Soul Fusion Skill to form the Hell White Tiger, but the fusion was weakened by their evil cultivation. Qian Daoliu and Golden Crocodile Douluo defeated them. 170

Aftermath

The deaths of Dai Feng and Zhu Lingxin ended the Star Luo Empire’s ruling order. Qian Daoliu remained at Dragonrise City to direct the Spirit Hall Empire’s takeover of Star Luo territory and eliminate Evil Soul Masters still in hiding, particularly in Star Luo City. 172 173

Tai Yi regarded the empire’s defeat as the final step needed to unify Douluo Continent under the Spirit Hall Empire and complete his fifth God Trial. 169

Occupation and Integration

The former empire’s territory was subjected to a continuing purge of hidden Evil Soul Masters while Spirit Hall forces moved into its cities and provinces. The destruction of Star Luo’s royal family, military command, and Evil Soul Master leadership left little organized resistance to the occupation. 173

By the time Tai Yi began preparing candidates for Divine Position inheritances, the Spirit Hall Empire’s conquest of Douluo Continent and defeat of Star Luo were treated as complete. Within the following months, former inhabitants of both Heaven Dou and Star Luo increasingly accepted Spirit Hall rule because of the stability and security it brought. 180 193
