Background / History

The Star Luo Empire was one of the two great empires of Douluo Continent. Unlike Heaven Dou, its brutal succession system was said to produce emperors who were ambitious, talented, and ruthless. Its military strength was reinforced by the close intermarriage of the imperial Dai Clan and the Zhu Clan, whose members could wield Martial Soul Fusion Skills together. 23

After learning that Spirit Hall’s young prodigies Tai Yi and Qian Renxue had left Spirit City, Emperor Dai Feng immediately dispatched Zhu Clan head Zhu Lingtian and Dai Yu to assassinate them. Star Luo was the first faction to take action against the pair, viewing them as threats to its ambitions of continental unification. 23

Dai Feng later granted Martial Soul Hall full administration of a province bordering Martial Soul City. Together with a province ceded by Heaven Dou, this territory became Spirit Province. The loss of territory worsened Star Luo’s already hostile relationship with Martial Soul Hall. 53 54

Government and Military

Conflict with Spirit Hall

Alliance with Heaven Dou

Facing Tai Yi’s rise as Spirit Hall’s new Pope, Star Luo proposed an alliance with its traditional rival, the Heaven Dou Empire. The two empires agreed to seal routes around Spirit Province and mass their armies for war. 113

Star Luo demanded that Heaven Dou fund seventy percent of the alliance’s military expenses, citing Star Luo’s stronger military and its stationed Titled Douluo. Heaven Dou accepted the unequal arrangement. 113

The alliance was compromised from the beginning: Guang Tian, the disguised Heaven Dou emperor and a Spirit Hall agent, secretly supplied Tai Yi with the deployment maps and exact locations of both empires’ forces. 114 127 130

Defeat around Spirit Province

The two empires committed eighty percent of their military strength to the encirclement of Spirit Province. Spirit Hall targeted their command headquarters rather than their roadblocks. 130 131

On the Star Luo front, Qian Daoliu and the Worship Hall elders annihilated the empire’s command structure. Eighty percent of Star Luo’s military commanders were killed, more than half its soldiers surrendered to Spirit Hall, and only twenty percent of its army remained capable of combat. 142

Descent into Evil Soul Master Rule

Adoption of the Forbidden Art

With the Spirit Hall Empire preparing to annex Star Luo, Blood One offered Dai Feng an evil technique that could rapidly elevate Soul Power through human blood. Dai Feng initially resisted because it required sacrificing his own subjects, but ultimately accepted the method and ordered children with Soul Power captured for testing. 142 143 144

Dai Feng and Zhu Lingxin used the technique, then spread it among trusted ministers. Those ministers were sent across the empire to cultivate themselves and raise Evil Soul Master armies, with criminals, villages, and slums designated as sources of “blood food.” 146

Breakdown of Order

The empire’s attempt to control the forbidden art failed. Ministers’ descendants circulated it among the nobility, while mass disappearances began in villages, slums, and eventually the Star Luo Royal Soul Master Academy. 149 150

As cultivation spread, royal relatives, ministers, soldiers, and local officials became Evil Soul Masters. Provincial forces began abducting civilians and Soul Masters openly, while some soldiers deserted to form independent factions. 156 160 161 167

• Star Luo City’s residents became afraid to go out at night due to abductions. 160

Battle of Dragonrise City

Dai Feng gathered Star Luo’s remaining forces at Dragonrise City, the birthplace of the empire’s founding emperor, intending to fight the Spirit Hall Empire to the death there. The city was nearly abandoned after repeated depredations by Evil Soul Masters. 169

Despite its numerical advantage, Star Luo’s Evil Soul Master army was disorganized and outmatched. The Angel Legion and Spirit Hall’s Titled Douluo routed the imperial forces, reducing their numbers from roughly twenty thousand to fewer than five thousand. 171

Dai Feng and Zhu Lingxin used their Martial Soul Fusion Skill to form the Hell White Tiger, but the fusion was weakened by their evil cultivation. Qian Daoliu and Golden Crocodile Douluo defeated them. 170

Aftermath

The deaths of Dai Feng and Zhu Lingxin ended the Star Luo Empire’s ruling order. Qian Daoliu remained at Dragonrise City to direct the Spirit Hall Empire’s takeover of Star Luo territory and eliminate Evil Soul Masters still in hiding, particularly in Star Luo City. 172 173

Tai Yi regarded the empire’s defeat as the final step needed to unify Douluo Continent under the Spirit Hall Empire and complete his fifth God Trial. 169
