Background / History

Dai Feng ruled the Star Luo Empire during its growing conflict with Spirit Hall. After Qian Daoliu's campaign, he met with the Spirit Hall leader and ceded administrative control over two additional provinces, reflecting the empire's weakening position. 53

He became alarmed when Tai Yi was selected to become Spirit Hall's Pope. Dai Feng believed Tai Yi's talent and ambition made a future attack on Star Luo inevitable, and considered cooperation with the Heaven Dou Empire necessary to preserve Star Luo's legacy. 112

After the Heaven Dou Empire fell, Dai Feng received reports that Star Luo had lost most of its commanders and army, while only he and Empress Zhu Lingxin remained among its former four Titled Douluo. 142 Blood One then approached him with a forbidden cultivation art on behalf of a master hostile to Spirit Hall. Though Dai Feng initially rejected the method because it required human blood and would condemn him in history, he accepted after being promised rapid advancement and the possibility of reversing Star Luo's decline. 143 144

Dai Feng first tested the art through his guard captain on two captured children with Soul Power. Witnessing the captain's substantial increase in strength convinced Dai Feng and Zhu Lingxin to cultivate it themselves. 144 145 He subsequently distributed the art to trusted ministers, had criminals used as initial sacrifices, and sent those ministers across the empire to cultivate, raise Evil Soul Master armies, and secure regional control. 146

To conceal his and Zhu Lingxin's cultivation, Dai Feng announced their seclusion and installed his son Dai Weisi as regent. He rationalizes atrocities as temporary sacrifices for the empire's survival, authorizes the use of captives and civilians as “blood food,” and treats even loyal ministers as expendable if removing them later would protect the imperial succession. 146 147
