Background

Born Yu Xiaogang, Gangzi was the son of Yu Yuanzhen, the Thunder Douluo and sect master of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. He awakened only 0.5 innate spirit power and a Pig-Dolphin martial soul, which was regarded as incapable of meaningful combat. His poor cultivation results, excessive consumption of clan resources, and reliance on medicinal baths made him a target of ridicule within the clan. 50

As a child, he was repeatedly assaulted and robbed of cultivation supplies by his grandniece Yu Ruowan, who was stronger than him despite being younger. Gangzi concealed these beatings because of his concern for his reputation. 50

Following Yu Yuanzhen’s death, Yu Luomian engineered Gangzi’s expulsion from both the Blue Lightning Jade Clan and the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. He was stripped of the Yu surname and sold to the noble spirit master Scar Brother, who gave him the name “Rose.” 52 53

Gangzi later manifested memories and a competing will from a previous life as Grandmaster Yu, also called Yu Dashī. This reborn will regretted failing to become a god alongside Tang San in its former life and attempted to alter its fate by using Long Yeyue to bind Tang San to it. 149 151 178

Appearance

Gangzi is described as petite. After being stripped of his clan identity and sold to Scar Brother, he became publicly known under the name “Rose.” 53 107

Personality

Gangzi is proud, resentful, and intensely concerned with proving that he is not worthless. As a child, he vowed to overcome his weak beginnings, yet he repeatedly sought shortcuts through medicine and clan resources rather than disciplined cultivation. 50

He is deeply jealous of those more talented or powerful than himself, particularly Yu Luomian and Yu Ruowan. Yu Ruowan’s evolution into a Radiant Sacred Dragon Spirit Douluo is especially unbearable to him because it represents the strength and dragon martial soul he desired. 52 113

Despite repeated humiliation and mistreatment, Gangzi remains defiant. After witnessing Bibi Dong murder and devour the souls of his parents, he swore vengeance against her. 83 84

Gangzi’s reborn Grandmaster will is calculating and opportunistic. Believing Tang San’s future godhood could provide him access to the God Realm, he sought to arrange Long Yeyue’s engagement to Tang San regardless of her wishes. 151 178

After being subjected to an immortality curse and continual abuse in rabbit-person form, Gangzi’s ambitions collapsed. He came to desire only the destruction of his soul and ordered Bibi Dong to kill him with her Soul-Eater Spider Emperor. 189

Bibi Dong’s Obsession

Bibi Dong develops an obsessive attachment to Gangzi and takes him from his noble owner, causing a major scandal for Martial Soul Hall. Although she arranges treatment for his injuries and impotence, Gangzi does not reciprocate her feelings. 61 62 107

Golden Iron Triangle

Gangzi escapes Scar Brother’s control with Flender and Liu Erlong’s assistance, gains a second spirit ring, and becomes a Soul Grand Master. He later marries Liu Erlong. 77 78

Repeated Punishment

Qian Xunji, Yu Luomian, and Yu Ruowan repeatedly target Gangzi after learning that he is living freely with Liu Erlong and Flender. Yu Ruowan beats him at his wedding and again at Shrek Academy, while Yu Luomian has him returned to Scar Brother’s custody. 80 81 111 112

Revenge Against Bibi Dong

Gangzi witnesses Bibi Dong torture and kill Yu Yuanzhen and Yan Dongpin to complete her first Rakshasa God Trial. Learning that their souls were devoured and could not be restored, he vows to kill her at any cost. 83 84

Father of Long Yeyue

Gangzi becomes pregnant under unexplained divine circumstances and gives birth to a daughter after a twenty-four-hour cesarean section. He names her Long Yeyue, hoping she will someday stand at the pinnacle of the Spirit Master World. 107

Fourth Rakshasa God Trial

To complete Bibi Dong’s fourth Rakshasa God Trial, the Rakshasa God forces her to deliver Gangzi to Scar Brother for forty-eight hours of special training and personally witness the entire ordeal. Bibi Dong completes the trial but becomes increasingly unstable, while Gangzi is driven further into depravity and madness. 147 148

Rebirth and Long Yeyue’s Engagement

After recovering memories of his prior life as Grandmaster Yu, Gangzi attempts to use Long Yeyue’s engagement to Tang San as a means of securing his own future ascent to the God Realm. At Shrek Academy, however, Yu Ruowan again violently beats him, and Long Yeyue’s resentment toward her weak and manipulative father becomes increasingly apparent. 151 178

Rabbit Curse and Soul Devouring

Gangzi is later transformed into a rabbit-like female humanoid and cursed with an immortal, endlessly regenerating body. When Bibi Dong receives a Rakshasa God Trial requiring her to kill him, Gangzi willingly demands that she use the Soul-Eater Spider Emperor to devour his soul and free him from the curse. 188 189

Qian Xunji subsequently takes control of Bibi Dong’s body and forces her to pierce Gangzi’s heart and consume Rose Gangzi’s soul. The reborn Yu Dashī’s will remains in the body under the name Gangzi. 189
