Background / History

Little Blue began as a Blue Silver Grass in Xu Bai's courtyard. Xu Bai had previously uprooted it while clearing weeds, but it regrew from its roots; its newfound intelligence allowed it to communicate with him telepathically. The Beast Taming Manual identified it as a rare mutated variety with millennium racial potential. 4

Xu Bai used the Manual to determine its evolution route, selecting the Creation-compatible path toward the Nine Tribulations Blue Silver Grass. Rather than immediately pursuing the prohibitively expensive evolution method, he deduced a cultivation method and prepared Hundred Herb Liquid to accelerate its growth. 5 7

For safety, Xu Bai transferred Little Blue, its surrounding soil, and a suitable growing environment into the Beast Taming Space. Little Blue initially feared that Xu Bai had eaten it, but accepted the arrangement after learning that the space could accelerate its cultivation. 12 15

After reaching one hundred years of age, Little Blue entered an equal contract with Xu Bai. It agreed readily because it regarded contracts and promises as matters of trust, even after Xu Bai jokingly described the arrangement as enslavement. First named it “Little Blue” and offered protection in exchange for food. 18 19 20

Little Blue's second and third reverse-living processes required it to die and revive. Xu Bai concealed this detail to secure its agreement, leaving it frightened and resentful after the second process; however, its excitement over gaining power quickly restored its trust in him. 21 23 24 39

It values promises so highly that it honors commitments even when frightened or uncertain. This principle makes it deeply trustworthy, but also leaves it vulnerable to Xu Bai's evasions and manipulation regarding its reverse-living processes. 19 21 23

Despite its fear of death and lasting anxiety around Xu Bai's dagger, Little Blue wants the strength to protect itself and assist in battle. It becomes more willing to use its abilities against enemies after discovering the improved power gained through reverse-living. 24 30
