Background / History
Yu Xiaogang was born to Yu Yuanzhen, the sect master of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. His martial soul mutated into Luo Sanpao, leading to humiliation within the clan and his eventual departure from home. 452
He later gained access to Spirit Hall records through his relationship with Bibi Dong. His public martial soul theories were described as largely compiled from centuries of Spirit Hall archives, establishing his reputation as a “Master” despite private contempt from many within Spirit Hall. 6 7
After leaving Spirit Hall, Yu Xiaogang traveled with Flender. During a spirit beast hunt, they met Liu Erlong; both men fell for her, though Liu Erlong chose Yu Xiaogang. The three developed a Martial Soul Fusion Skill and became known as the Golden Iron Triangle. 59
Yu Xiaogang eventually accepted Tang San as his disciple after identifying his Twin Martial Souls. He treated Tang San as his greatest hope of overturning the “trash” label attached to himself. 109 135
Appearance
Before his transformation, Yu Xiaogang is described as an average-looking man whose low Soul Power contrasts sharply with his carefully maintained aura of composed, mysterious confidence. 111
After cultivating his own revised technique, he develops a feminine appearance, including fairer skin, altered voice, and a more delicate build; observers struggle to recognize him as the former Yu Xiaogang. 718 725
- Often stands with his hands behind his back to project authority. 111
- Originally had a scruffy, bearded appearance before the technique’s effects changed his body. 725
- Became notably concerned with clothing, jewelry, cosmetics, and his appearance after the transformation. 712 713
- His transformed martial soul also develops alongside his physical changes. 725
Personality
Yu Xiaogang is intensely driven by his need to prove that he is not worthless. His inability to surpass Level 29 Soul Power, combined with the shame associated with his mutated martial soul, leaves him obsessed with fame, validation, and recognition as a true Grandmaster. 101 452 759
He frequently displays extreme self-confidence disproportionate to his strength. At Shrek Academy, he promises to seek justice against Su Chen and Martial Soul Hall despite relying primarily on the Pope Token and his old relationship with Bibi Dong. 111 117 121
Yu Xiaogang is also portrayed as evasive and self-justifying. When confronted over Bibi Dong and Liu Erlong, he insists that his actions were necessary to prove himself, rather than accepting responsibility for the harm he caused. 240 759
Abilities & Skills
Martial Soul Theory
Yu Xiaogang is famous for proposing the Ten Great Martial Soul Theories and is publicly regarded as a martial soul scholar. His status, however, is repeatedly challenged because much of his knowledge came from records of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and Spirit Hall. 6 101 111
- Identified Tang San’s Twin Martial Souls, prompting Tang San to acknowledge him as his teacher. 109
- Incorrectly treated Tang San’s Blue Silver Emperor as ordinary Blue Silver Grass and directed it toward a poison-control path. 109
- Incorrectly attributed Tang San’s Innate Full Soul Power solely to the Clear Sky Hammer rather than recognizing the Blue Silver Emperor lineage. 240 241
- Later repeated Su Chen’s explanation of Tang San’s Blue Silver Emperor after learning it from others. 294
Revised Cultivation Method
Yu Xiaogang copied Su Chen’s martial cultivation method, altered it overnight, and promoted the result as his own work. The Heaven Dou Empire distributed the revised method under the title Jade Tang Treasure Record. 705 706 708
- His revision allowed rapid cultivation for himself, Tang Hao, and Dai Mubai, all of whom had similar physical conditions. 706 707
- The technique’s circulation was overly yin-oriented and caused long-term gender reversal in its practitioners. 707 718
- Practitioners who did not voluntarily castrate themselves would eventually be altered by the technique itself. 707
- Its public distribution triggered widespread outrage when cultivators experienced irreversible transformations. 721 723 726
Luo Sanpao
Luo Sanpao is Yu Xiaogang’s mutated martial soul. Unlike a conventional martial soul, it can manifest physically and exist independently. 748 749
- Yu Xiaogang regarded Luo Sanpao as the source of his shame and resented it for limiting his Soul Power. 749 761
- Su Chen argues that Luo Sanpao’s independent physical form gave it considerable unrealized potential. 761
- Yu Xiaogang’s refusal to nurture or properly deploy Luo Sanpao prevented that potential from being explored. 761
