Background / History

Ye Lingling is the inheritor of the Nine Heart Begonia, a healing martial soul regarded as an exceptional support-type martial soul. Its bloodline carries a generational defect: only two Nine Heart Begonia spirit masters may exist at a time, and a new successor can appear only after one dies. Having learned of this burden, she and her mother spent years seeking a way to resolve it, enduring repeated disappointments. 20 24

She first meets Mo Li outside Heaven Dou City while waiting for Dugu Yan. A squad of spirit masters surrounds and harasses her, knowing that her martial soul provides no combat ability. Mo Li intervenes before their leader can remove her veil, and Liu Erlong subsequently suppresses the group. 10 11 12

Although Mo Li invites her to Blue Tyrant Academy, Ye Lingling declines because she is already a Heaven Dou Royal Academy student. She nevertheless welcomes future visits and retains a favorable impression of him after his rescue. 12

At the Heaven Dou Auction House, she seeks the Ice-Skin Snow-Jade Ginseng in hopes of curing the Nine Heart Begonia's flaw. She bids 320,000 gold soul coins but withdraws when the price rises beyond her means. Ning Fengzhi later gives her the herb after Mo Li intercedes for her. 21 23

Mo Li offers Ye Lingling hope that the curse can be lifted and asks to become her friend without ulterior motives. Though initially despondent, she chooses to trust him. 24 By the time of the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well expedition, Mo Li has resolved the martial soul defect affecting both Ye Lingling and her mother. In gratitude, she declares that she is willing to do anything within her ability for him. 79 86

Ye Lingling later agrees to join Blue Tyrant Academy. She explains that her mother had already approached Liu Erlong with the same intention, believing that Mo Li had given the Nine Heart Begonia family “a new life.” 87

Reunion and Auction House

Two years after their first meeting, Ye Lingling intervenes when Mo Li defeats Dugu Yan during a misunderstanding. She reconnects with him and later attends the Heaven Dou Auction House with him, Dugu Yan, and Jiang Zhu. 18 20

At the auction, her attempt to acquire the Ice-Skin Snow-Jade Ginseng reveals the urgency of curing her family's martial soul defect. Mo Li supports her, and Ning Fengzhi eventually gifts her the herb. 21 23

Hope for the Nine Heart Begonia
