Background / History

Nalan Yanran is the granddaughter of Marshal Nalan Jie and daughter of General Nalan Su. As a noble young lady of the Jia Ma Empire, she intends to enter the Misty Cloud Sect when Lin Hao first arrives unexpectedly in her room at the Nalan Estate. Though alarmed by the intrusion, she quietly escorts him out of the estate and uses her family’s position to ensure the coachman leaves them alone. She also warns Lin Hao not to damage her reputation by speaking of the incident. 3

She joins the Misty Cloud Sect and becomes Yun Yun’s disciple. During Lin Hao’s admission, she recognizes him from their first meeting; later, she assists Yun Yun in guiding him through the sect’s Scripture Pavilion. 4 6

After Lin Hao disappears for two years, Yanran regularly checks Chengxiao Hall for his return at Yun Yun’s request. She is suspicious of his unexplained origins and discovers that the sect’s records falsely identify him as her distant cousin. 20 Despite their frequent teasing and disagreements, she becomes increasingly close to him, delivers medicinal supplies on Yun Yun’s behalf, and shares his body-tempering medicinal bath behind a cloth divider. 29

She is clever, curious, and difficult to fool. Lin Hao’s missing records and mysterious background fascinate her, but his evasive answers repeatedly frustrate her. 20 29 65 Her relationship with him is marked by playful banter, suspicion, and growing trust.

Yanran is deeply loyal to both her family and the Misty Cloud Sect.
