Background / History
Tang San awakens Blue Silver Grass with innate full soul power and is selected as Holy Soul Village's work-study student for Notting Academy. Unknown to Su Yuntao and the village, he is a transmigrator with Twin Martial Souls and conceals the Clear Sky Hammer manifesting in his left hand. There, he accepts Yu Xiaogang as his master through a formal three-kowtow ceremony, treating the master-disciple bond with profound seriousness. 1 2 8
He initially clashes with Lin Hao after Lin Hao insults Yu Xiaogang. Their rivalry becomes physical: Tang San attempts to wear Lin Hao down through the endurance of the Mysterious Heaven Skill, then resorts to a sleeve-arrow sneak attack after losing their spar. Xiao Wu rebukes him for the dishonorable act, prompting him to reflect on his behavior. 15 16
Tang Hao's disappearance leaves Tang San deeply affected. During later visits to Holy Soul Village, he feels both the comfort of returning home and the pain of his father's absence; he openly expresses a desire for family. Having been deprived of parental care in both lives, he finds the prospect of brotherhood with Lin Hao and Xiao Wu especially meaningful. 16 19 33
Tang San's relationship with Lin Hao gradually shifts from suspicion and rivalry to sworn brotherhood. Lin Hao compensates Meng Yiran so Tang San can absorb the Human-Faced Demon Spider's spirit ring, then sends the Meng family away to protect Tang San from anyone coveting a possible External Soul Bone. Moved by this intervention, Tang San calls Lin Hao “Big Brother” for the first time. 32 33
Lin Hao later brings Tang San to Ah Yin, revealing that the Blue Silver Grass in a hidden cave is his mother. Tang San emotionally reconnects with her, kowtows to Lin Hao in gratitude, and receives Ah Yin's hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone. The bone's life-oriented healing ability confirms for him that Yu Xiaogang's cultivation guidance had led Blue Silver Grass away from its optimal path. 57 58 59
Tang San increasingly acts independently of Yu Xiaogang. He chooses his own fourth spirit ring, confronts Yu Xiaogang over his actions and motivations toward Liu Erlong, and accepts Lin Hao's guidance toward a life- and poison-support evolution path for Blue Silver Grass. He nevertheless initially maintains that Yu Xiaogang remains his teacher in name, warning that he will sever the master-disciple bond if Yu Xiaogang harms his interests again. 75 87 92 113
After learning of the Blue Silver King from Lin Hao, Tang San travels to the Blue Silver Forest. His martial soul evolves from Blue Silver Grass into the Blue Silver Emperor, and he gains the Blue Silver Domain and fifth spirit ring. 137 138
Tang San later joins Lin Hao's Misty Cloud Sect after agreeing that his intended Tang Sect should merge into it. While he values the Tang Sect as his father's legacy and wants its hidden weapons to flourish, he accepts Lin Hao as sect master. 102 103
Later, Tang San severs his right hand and disowns Tang Hao, declaring an end to their father-son relationship. He remains unmoved even after hearing Tang Hao's grief, and Ah Yin's right-leg-bone healing power regenerates his severed hand. 189 190
Following the break with Tang Hao, Tang San and Xiao Wu travel to Slaughter City to rendezvous with Lin Hao and the others. By the time of the fighting around Purple Pearl Island, Yu Xiaogang has also severed all ties with Tang San. Tang San fights without mercy during the conflict and accepts Lin Hao's healing medicine and Soul Power-restoring Qi Gathering Powder after being wounded. 190 263
Personality
Tang San is portrayed as talented, proud, competitive, and strongly motivated by a desire for power. He is capable of selfishness and double standards, but retains a conscience, a sense of honor, and an understanding of right and wrong. 19 33 53
His early defeats reveal a sore-loser streak and willingness to use surprise attacks or poisons, yet he matures after being confronted by Xiao Wu and Lin Hao. Over time, he becomes more assertive, righteous, and willing to challenge those close to him when he believes they are wrong. 15 16 59 87
Family deprivation heavily shapes him. Having lacked stable parental affection in both lives, he is especially responsive to Lin Hao's brotherly care and places great emotional value on the bond between sworn brothers. His gratitude and loyalty to Lin Hao become strong enough that he and Xiao Wu exhaust themselves in consecutive arena battles to aid Lin Hao's victory. 33 58 113 114
Tang San is perceptive and increasingly independent in his judgment. He critically examines Yu Xiaogang's behavior, recognizes the flaws in his teacher's motives and theories, and ultimately chooses his own cultivation path. He is also capable of acknowledging others' intelligence, as shown by his admiration for Shui Bing'er's strategy during the Sea God trials. 75 87 92 209
