Background / History

Yin Xiang was adopted by Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki as an infant. His adoption became widely known in Konoha, where he was called the Fourth Hokage's young master. Though publicly treated as Minato's son, he retained the surname Insoro in secret. 4 10

He possessed memories of a past life and concealed the extent of his intelligence from his adoptive parents and caretakers. He learned from Minato's casual explanations of ninjutsu and practiced hand seals in secret even as a baby. 5

After Minato and Kushina died during the Nine-Tails attack, Yin Xiang became an orphan of Konoha's hero. Kakashi took responsibility for him, later becoming both his protector and instructor. Yin Xiang was troubled that Naruto, his newborn adoptive brother, did not receive the same kindness from the village. 5 9

At age twelve, he had inherited and learned major elements of Minato's fighting style, including the Flying Thunder God and Rasengan. He remained at the Academy rather than graduating early because he wanted to graduate alongside Naruto. 9 10

Four surviving Insoro Clan members later sought his judgment after revealing that a Sharingan genjutsu had controlled them into massacring their own clan. Yin Xiang rejected vengeance and granted them freedom; they nevertheless committed suicide before him. He buried them and recovered their equipment. 12 13

Following graduation, Yin Xiang was placed alone under Shikaku Nara's instruction. The Third Hokage intended for Shikaku to develop him as a future adviser to the Hokage, while remaining cautious of Yin Xiang's unknown Insoro background. 13 14

Yin Xiang is a handsome young man with messy black hair. He typically wears a black outfit and black shoes rather than the open-toed sandals common among other shinobi. 9

Personality

Yin Xiang outwardly presents himself as calm, polite, and confident. He is blunt with Shikaku, playful with Tenten, and often dismissive of the “genius” reputation others place on him. Despite his exceptional talent, he considers many of his accomplishments products of inheritance, circumstance, or experimentation rather than pure genius. 14 18

His central desire is a peaceful, ordinary life: enough strength to protect himself, a family, and freedom from the violent legacy of the Insoro Clan. He refuses to pursue clan vengeance even after learning of its destruction. 12 13

He is deeply protective of Naruto and treats him as a younger brother, encouraging his dream of becoming Hokage, waiting to graduate with him, and worrying about his safety during the Chunin Exams. 10 11 44

Yin Xiang initially struggled with the prospect of killing, retaining modern moral beliefs that made him reluctant to take life. During the Land of Honey operation, however, he became willing to use ambushes, interrogation, deception, and lethal force to accomplish the mission. 21 24 26 31 33

Yin Xiang serves as the principal planner for the operation to rescue the Land of Honey's daimyo. Sealing Apprenticeship and Chunin Exams
