He remains burdened by guilt over Nohara Rin's death and by his memories of Obito. The thought of his own hand piercing Rin's chest continues to deprive him of peace, while the discovery that Obito is alive gives him hope that Rin might also be restored someday 67 126.

Kakashi is commonly seen wearing a mask, with one eye concealed beneath his forehead protector. He carries a Sharingan for much of the story, though the eye is repeatedly removed, restored, modified, and ultimately reclaimed by Obito 65 71 125 137.

Kakashi is vigilant and cautious around unknown threats. Upon meeting Xuan Yu in the Leaf Village, he quickly treats the disguised intruder as a danger to be reported to the Hokage, even while agreeing to spar in order to buy time and gather information 65.

His guilt often becomes self-destructive. During his confrontation with Obito, years of repentance and reduced training leave him psychologically and physically outmatched; he accepts the possibility of dying at Obito's hands rather than escaping responsibility for the past 67 137.

Despite this, he remains committed to the Leaf. He reports threats to Hiruzen, accepts the task of helping teach Sasuke, and is entrusted with retrieving Yakushi Nonō so that Naruto and the village's orphans can receive proper care 66 88 98.
