Background

As a child, Hinata was once returned home by Zeyu after running away. He later defended her when three children bullied her and continued to stand up for her when others spoke badly of her. These experiences became the foundation of her attachment to him. 7 36

Hinata graduated from the Ninja Academy and received a bracelet that Zeyu made for her from red cord and amethyst beads. Her father, Hiashi, noticed the gift immediately and began closely watching Zeyu's relationship with his daughter. 9 10

She was assigned to Kurenai Yuhi's team with Kiba and Shino, while Zeyu was placed elsewhere. Although disappointed, Hinata resolved to do her best and remained close to him. 11

Before the Chunin Exams, Zeyu became her principal training partner. He identified flaws in her Gentle Fist stance and taught her to generate force more efficiently, allowing her to break through a long period of stagnation. 16 17
