|---|---|---|
| Low-level Magic Beast | 58 125 | Reached the point of casting magic after rapid growth under Liszt’s care. Liszt forcibly guided its magic power to its mouth, allowing it to use Rock Spike. |
| Bloodline Fruit transformation | 125 127 129 | Consumed a Bloodline Fruit during the Thorn Ridge expedition. The transformation caused temporary ferality, explosive physical growth, stronger magic reserves, and much larger Rock Spikes. |
| Intermediate Magic Beast | 139 234 | Confirmed as an intermediate Magic Beast after gaining the ability to cast several Rock Spikes at once. The Count later verified the classification through its magic absorption and bloodline intensity. |
| Second magic: Rock Grenade | 285 286 | Awakened Rock Grenade after Zyra provoked it. The spell launches an airborne rock that explodes, giving Dousen anti-air and siege capability. |
| Third magic: Stone Armor | 380 381 | Learned Stone Armor after suffering trauma from Count Snede’s final strike and refusing physical armor. It forms protective rock over its body. |
| Mature intermediate Magic Beast | 460 | Fully matured at nearly two years old and became proficient in all four of its spells, reaching the apparent limit of its evolved bloodline. |
Background / History
Dousen began as a shivering Violent Earth Dog cub kept in a converted recreation room at Flower Town Castle. Liszt personally fed and bathed it until it opened its eyes, ensuring that Liszt would be the first person it recognized. He named the cub “Dousen” because it was trembling from the cold. 17
After acknowledging Liszt as its master, Dousen displayed a violent streak toward other people, attempting to bite Thomas when he was led to the doghouse. Liszt nevertheless entrusted Thomas with its care and intended to train the pup until obedience became instinctive. 20 Liszt used dried meat rewards and repeated commands to condition Dousen to sit, retrieve objects, cast magic, and follow orders. 42 65
Liszt later forced open Dousen’s ability to release earth-aspected magic, teaching it to cast Rock Spike. Dousen’s spikes were subsequently used both in combat training and as granite-like materials for paving Dousen Avenue. 58 84
During the Thorn Ridge extermination expedition, Liszt chose Dousen rather than the Li Dragon Horse to consume a Bloodline Fruit. The fruit triggered a dangerous transformation: Dousen became temporarily feral, then slaughtered six Wind Blade Wolves before its magic power ran dry. It ultimately responded to Liszt’s command to sit, confirming that its training and loyalty had endured the transformation. 125 127
The bloodline change steadily increased Dousen’s size, strength, healing, and magical output. It became the principal force in clearing Thorn Ridge, hunting Magic Beasts ranging from Ice Tree Frogs to Thunderfang Boars. 129 130 Its status as an intermediate Magic Beast was formally accepted after it learned Multiple Rock Spikes. 139
Dousen later mated with the captive Violent Earth Dog known as Earth Wife; Liszt expected her to bear its offspring. 136 264 It also became the leader and disciplinarian of the Eight Little Ones, Liszt’s young Blizzard Beasts. 429 736
Appearance
Dousen is an enormous black canine Magic Beast with glossy fur, a heavily muscled build, golden eyes, and an intimidating predatory presence. Though it can behave like a docile dog beside Liszt, its size and killing intent are enough to overwhelm trained knights. 141 253
- Measures 4.26 meters from head to tail when stretched straight. 177
- Has a 1.41-meter front shoulder height; in a natural stance, its head reaches 1.97 meters. 177
- Weighs approximately 1,300 jin and is described as roughly three times larger than an ordinary Coral Island tiger. 177
- Continued growing after its Bloodline Fruit transformation before reaching physical maturity at nearly two years old. 177 460
Personality
Dousen is fiercely loyal to Liszt and obeys commands ingrained through long-term conditioning. Even while temporarily feral after consuming the Bloodline Fruit, it eventually recognized Liszt’s order to sit and returned to him. 127 It follows Liszt into dangerous settings, including the ghost ship incident, where its presence gives Liszt confidence. 247
It remains aggressive and distrustful toward most other people. Dousen once charged Lvera with enough killing intent to leave her unable to resist, stopping only when Liszt recalled it. 141 It is also aloof toward servants, whom it considers beneath its attention. 214
Despite its battlefield ferocity, Dousen has recognizable animal fears and emotions. It is afraid of water and became seasick during early shipboard training. 184 185 After being badly wounded by Count Snede, it showed emotional trauma and resisted wearing the protective armor Liszt commissioned for it. 380 381
Abilities & Skills
Rock Spike and Multiple Rock Spikes
Dousen’s primary earth-element magic raises hardened stone spikes from the ground. The spikes are described as granite-hard and can be produced rapidly and accurately under Liszt’s direction. 84 106
- Can cast individual Rock Spikes, simultaneous pairs, and bursts of Multiple Rock Spikes. 136 139
- Reached a recorded maximum of six Rock Spikes in a single burst after becoming an intermediate Magic Beast. 139
- Used its magic to create stone for Dousen Avenue, turning combat magic into road-building material. 84 129
- Disrupted enemy knight formations at Greenleaf Castle by erupting spikes beneath their charge. 377
- Can exhaust its magic reserves; this prevented it from finishing the last Wind Blade Wolf during its first transformed battle. 127
Rock Grenade
Rock Grenade condenses a flying stone projectile that explodes in midair, creating a powerful ranged earth-element attack. 285 286
- Gives Dousen an effective method of attacking airborne opponents, including Sky Knights. 286
- Used as a siege weapon to breach Little River City’s defenses. 375
- Used at close range against castle walls while protected by Stone Armor. 460
- Initially required time before Dousen formed a conditioned response to the command. 286
Stone Armor
Stone Armor covers Dousen’s body in cracked, dense rock without significantly limiting its movement. 381
- Protects its neck, forehead, shoulders, back, and thighs. 381
- Replaced the refined-steel dog armor that Dousen refused to wear. 381
- Can be dismissed by shaking its body, flinging the stones away. 381
- Consumes substantially more magic power than its offensive spells. 382
Physical Combat and Mobility
Dousen possesses exceptional strength, durability, and speed even without magic.
- Defeated six Wind Blade Wolves alone during its Bloodline Fruit transformation. 127
- Can climb trees to pursue and kill Ice Tree Frogs. 130
- Is powerful enough to serve as Liszt’s mount without losing mobility. 152
- Used evasive, guerrilla-style movement against the six-headed sea serpent Dulu Michita, repeatedly striking with Rock Spikes while avoiding its counterattacks. 326
Battlefield Discipline
Long-term training gives Dousen unusually strong command response and tactical awareness for a Magic Beast.
- Understands Liszt’s orders and halts attacks immediately when commanded. 285
- Served as a guard, combat assistant, and mobile artillery platform for Liszt’s knight forces. 122 375
- Leads the Eight Little Ones with wolf-pack discipline during training and deployment. 429 736
Relationships
- Liszt — Master, trainer, and primary bond. Liszt raised Dousen from infancy, conditioned its obedience, guided its magic, and repeatedly relied on it as his most trusted battlefield companion. 17 127 247
- Thomas — Early caretaker. Thomas was assigned to feed and manage Dousen, though he struggled to restrain it as it grew stronger. 20 112
- Earth Wife — Mate and fellow Violent Earth Dog. Dousen successfully mated with the captive Earth Wife, who was later expected to bear its offspring. 136 264
- Li Dragon Horse — Familiar stablemate. Dousen does not attack the horse and follows it comfortably during expeditions. 122 181
- Zyra — Antagonistic fellow companion. Zyra’s jealous attack with thorns provoked Dousen into awakening Rock Grenade. 285 286
- Eight Little Ones — Blizzard Beast offspring squad under Dousen’s command and discipline. 429 736
