Background / History

Tang San is introduced at Nuoding Academy as Yu Xiaogang’s disciple. When Bai Yi humiliates Yu Xiaogang by proving the “embroidery needle” is actually the Golden Cudgel, Tang San rushes to help his teacher with Blue Silver Grass. After Bai Yi insults Yu Xiaogang, Tang San challenges him to a duel, declaring that “a teacher for a day is a father for life” 1.

Despite having obtained his first soul ring, Tang San is defeated by Bai Yi’s extending Golden Cudgel in a single blow. The loss shocks him because of his past-life identity as the Tang Sect’s most gifted disciple and because he also possesses the Clear Sky Hammer. The defeat plants doubt in him toward Yu Xiaogang’s teachings 1.

Years later, Tang San joins Shrek Academy. He watches Bai Yi’s clones Xuanming and Taixu fight Zhao Wuji and analyzes their martial souls, soul ring configurations, and combat coordination with Purple Demon Eye. Their peak Soul Ancestor strength leaves him deeply shocked 32.

When Bai Yi personally appears as a twelve-year-old Soul Ancestor with a purple-purple-black-black soul ring configuration, Tang San remembers his defeat at Nuoding Academy. He had trained relentlessly to erase that humiliation, but Bai Yi’s growth makes him feel as if the gap has only widened 33.

Tang San’s jealousy toward Bai Yi intensifies after he sees Xiao Wu clinging to Bai Yi in the Star Dou Great Forest. He tries to provoke Bai Yi by questioning his relationship with Ning Rongrong and Ye Lingling, but Xiao Wu rebukes him for speaking badly of Bai Yi. Bai Yi’s Heavenly Stance Clone then defeats Tang San in under three breaths 35.

At the Soto Great Soul Arena, Tang San leads the Shrek Seven Monsters against Bai Yi’s disguised Iron Pillar Team. During the fight, Tang San attempts to restrain Er Ming with Blue Silver Grass and later activates his Eight Spider Lances. After Bai Yi merges with Er Ming and receives Ning Rongrong’s support, Tang San is pinned by hundredfold gravity, has all eight spider lances torn out, and swears revenge 45 46 47.

Personality

Tang San is intensely loyal to Yu Xiaogang. He treats respect for teachers as a core principle inherited from his Tang Sect background, immediately challenging Bai Yi after Yu Xiaogang is insulted 1.

He is analytical in combat, often observing opponents’ martial souls, soul rings, movement patterns, and soul skill trajectories before acting. He uses Purple Demon Eye to study Xuanming and Taixu’s battle with Zhao Wuji, and later calculates Er Ming’s strengths and weaknesses while fighting in the Soul Arena 32 47.

Tang San is also prideful and deeply sensitive to humiliation. His repeated defeats by Bai Yi become personal wounds, and his jealousy over Xiao Wu’s affection for Bai Yi pushes him into reckless provocation 33 35.

His protectiveness toward Xiao Wu remains strong. Even while badly injured and pinned down by gravity, he shouts for Bai Yi to come at him instead of touching Xiao Wu 47.
